So a good friend of mine came from a pretty shitty background, and has a lot of self esteem issues stemming from that. Over the years I've introduced them to some better people and they're doing a lot better nowadays.
The thing is though, when they drink they sometimes start talking about the abuse and shit they went through and start crying and talking about how much they appreciate what people are doing for her now. I'm aware of my shortcomings, and while I'm comfortable listening I'm not very good at dealing with these situations.
Basically, what do you do the day afterwards? Is it better to just act like nothing happened so they don't think it's a big deal? Try to talk to them about it a day or two after? I've had my issues, but I always approached it from a very different angle so it's hard for me to put myself in their shoes.

Just because youre drinking doesnt mean either of you forgot what happened the night before. Talk to your friend and tell him everything will be okay.

Weepily telling everyone how much you love them is just part of getting really drunk. This person's just got a bit extra to add to their "I love you, man" speech.
It depends on the person, but I wouldn't necessarily say this is something that needs to be addressed. I mean, there's a reason they're saying it while drunk and uninhibited instead of sober. If you want to have a heart to heart about it, do it in the moment when you're both plastered and it won't feel awkward.
