Anyone here ever tried dating someone from a different cultural background? How do cultural differences affect your relationship? Was it mostly in a negative way?

I guess it depends on how and in what way they differ from you.
I have dated a south african (a boer actually). We shared the same values and the only cultural differences were actually quite amusing. Learning about their folklore and food.
There were a few differences in how we handle race, what with him growing up in a country divided by racial tensions and me growing up as someone who's never even seen a black person.
Right now I'm dating a romanian. I have not noticed any cultural differences, aside from a few holidays.
To be honest, I don't think I could date a cultural middle eastern. Even if he was super liberal, their customs, food, holidays etc. would still be too different for me to feel comfortable and feel comfortable raising a child in.

European, dating american.
I don't get half of his references to movies/tv shows because if I saw them, I saw them dubbed. That's the only downside.
We had a few arguments about politics, but not a big deal.
He has been living here for 10 years now so he knows and accepted my culture - food, folklore, history, etc.
We mostly share the same values and we have fun together because we teach each other a lot.
