Autism here (diagnosed when I was a toddler).
What motivations do people usually have with regards to each other in the real world? What do people usually want from each other?
I often find it very hard to understand the motivations behind people's actions. A lot of what other people do seems to be somewhat senseless to me.

We have more trouble taming our need to belong. We feel worse if we don't fit in than you do.
That's my guess..

We crave attention and affection I guess, we try to convince ourselves that we are better people because we have friends and that people like us. It's pretty shallow and even if I indulge in this whole social stuff, I totally understand why it seems weird and empty to you.
I know two autistic people, though they are Asperger more than clinically autistic, and we had this sort of conversation a lot.
