If someone honest-to-goodness wanted to make it as an opera singer, what would be the logical way to go about it?
I'm 22, not up-to-practice but I used to, re-learning the entire damn thing as an adult in a lower voice range can't be that much harder, and I've been intending to look my old teacher up again to see if she'd be up for the challenge.

I guess look up coaches like you've already mentioned.
Then go audition on Broadway, or any city with opera houses and/or musical plays. Don't move to any location, just fly in/out for auditions. If you're really desperate and auditions aren't going your way, do some of that Voice/X-Factor shit for at least minimal exposure, toss shit up on YouTube, etc. When you land a gig, grab a few Tony Awards, buy some coke, snort it off hooker tits. Sounds kind of fun actually.

My last plan was the ape-in-overalls. So many bastards have apparently just gone to the reality show auditions in unlikely clothes (including the british plumber in his overalls and an american fuck in goth gear) and surprised them just with sheer wrong first impression. Though that trick is probably old by now.
