My friend since first grade (we are mid twenties now) is keeping his friend circle away from me, though I get along really well with them. I just moved back to where I grew up, so I don't really know many people anymore. I an pretty sure he is doing this to power trip on "being more popular" (he has many reasons why/evidence he ego boosts, and events make it clear he is doing this for that reason.)

What can I do?

In your position i would contact one of hid friends in the "friend circle" (the one you think you would get along best with) and just start hanging out

Then take the situation from there.

I already do. Besides my work/music/Pokemon go, all that amounts to is occasionally seeing him, seeing my other close friend I went all thru school with, or once a month having one of my old college friends who live far away visit. The last few years of college and after that have spoiled me with having social groups
