So I'm an 18 year old teen who is about to go to college in a month or so. Before I go to college, I wanted to hold a part-time summer job so I could make some money before the school year starts. As a result, I got a job at a local burger joint close to my house.
My problem is this burger joint is unorganized as fuck. When I first got the job I was actually leaving on vacation for a week and placed my notice, but they still scheduled me to work so I had to call again to tell them I wouldn't be able to work. And now this is just my 3rd week working but they don't even have a schedule for me currently, and are just calling me into work on the morning of that day whenever they need me.
This is frustrating as hell because I actually have other things I'm doing on the side such as tutoring and other important things. I was going to make everything fit into one another with my work schedule, but I don't even have a work schedule and now when I get called in randomly it voids the rest of my day. My question is, should I quit? Should I complain? Should I suck it up and work? Do I even have a right to be angry since, after all, I'm the one who asked for the job?
Thanks.
The current situation is that you cannot do both your job or your "other important things." I'm going to assume that the important things are more important than your job. If this is the case, the situation will not work.
Is management aware of this situation? If they are aware, make double check. Make sure they know they are going to lose you if the situation continues. If they cannot accommodate, leave. You can make money elsewhere, perhaps mowing lawns.
I was in a similar situation a few weeks ago. I was working at a Chick fil a for 2 months, but they were disorganized as fuck, and scheduling for vacation was horrendous. I eventually called the owner and straight up told him the situation and they took me off the schedule and I was out of the job. In my case though, I already had a few other places lined up. If you're confident enough to find another place to work, or just go without a job, then go for it, man.
