When calling a suicide hotline, are there things I should avoid

Why are you against the police being called? They're not going to take you to jail, all they'll do is force you to go to a hospital to get a psych evaluation.

If you're really having thoughts of suicide then you need help.

Isn't it possible to 'fail' the evaluations, meaning in worst case scenarios, you could even be detained?

Why are you concerned about what you should or should not say? If you're feeling like complete shit just be honest and express how you feel.

As stated above, I was told there are case in which they'd call the police. I do not want to have to be put into a mental hospital (if it is true that they do that), mostly because I do not want to panic my family.
