How do I get my motivation from myself as opposed to other people?
I literally don't want to do anything productive when I don't have friends. The point where I started having people I considered friends is the point where I did best academically and when I didn't have anyone to improve for I just sank and lost any will to do anything besides what seemed absolutely necessary.
How can I stop being like this?

Motivation to do what exactly? If you were only working towards something for the sake of other people then it sounds like you've been living in bad faith.

OP here I found this video somewhat insightful but kinda vague since it's basically just "be compassionate toward yourself like you're with other people" which is really not specific enough to be super helpful to me but still appreciated.
Though I did get a link to a super good post on Reddit from it. Highest rated reply, might help other people out as well.
