i would ask if there is a reason we are doing it that particular way, explain my reasoning why, but assure them i could be wrong or misunderstanding.

If so then I would humbly refuse.

you do it your way and justify it by claiming that you're looking out for the good of the company. the boss may be the boss, but he's not infallible
