is music actually a detrimental cognitive drug? i get melodies and half-heard lyrics stuck in my head all the time, which annoy the hell out of me and seem to take away the space in my brain i could be using to form abstract thought. i'm starting to think "earworms" are actually malicious shits. sure they get you high, but at what cost? it also seems like classical music is a lot less catchy in general and there might be something to the "it makes you smarter" idea, except instead of having a bonus, it's just less of a negative than other genres. Double Sextet by Reich is the only thing i listen to anymore since thinking about this
