I need a bit of help

I've never been good at doing mental math like multiplying, dividing or even adding and subtracting. I regularly mix up directions like right and left or east and west. However I have no issues with math when given a calculator (even though I have to use it for simple math). Also, my handwriting has always been shit, even though I've tried to improve it.

My father is dyslexic as is my aunt and grandfather on that side. I'm curious if I have any sort of disorder myself, because it ticks me off that I have to ask others to do simple math for me and that my handwriting is so shitty.

Are you retarded?

Nope. IQ is 128.

Sounds like you're just dumb.

I would agree but I can manipulate calculations fine, so I did well in physics class because I had a calculator. I'm also good with music (I play several instruments and have been for years). I got a 27 on my act and a 1750 on the sat.

On paper I should be able to do math in my head fine but I cant.

You probably have a learning disability. Ask your doc, a shrink or therapist, or the local health, mental health, or human services department about getting tested. It could save your bacon to have that in your records.

For example if you live in the US and have proof on paper that you have learning disabilities in specific areas, you're eligible for some accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act. I can't tell you exactly what accommodations would be available to you in each exact situation. But at some point it might save your job - for instance, if you were working a job and they tried to transfer you to another position where you'd have to do a math, it could mean the difference between staying in a position you can actually do vs. getting fired for "poor performance."

Some other countries have laws protecting people with disabilities as well. You'd have to google to find out more. The law's there for your benefit, make the most of it.

Maybe you have somw degree of dyscalculia? Idk but since I was in elementary I sucked at math so much, but my other classes were perfect. I'm really good with words and languages, currently studying lingüistics, translation and interpretation plus I know English, Japanese, Spanish, Latin and I'm just learning Chinese and Russian.

If your problem worries you so much, go to see and specialist.

Another thing disability laws provide for: you mentioned that you are fine with some math if you have a calculator. That would count as an accommodation. I have a friend who has a learning disability in math and she was allowed to use calculators when they normally wouldn't have allowed it. Again, each situation is different, but it could mean the difference between getting/keeping a job vs. being unemployed.

Hhi Op. I have the same, there is actually a name for this disorder but I forgot. It has to due with coagulation of one of the sides of the brain. I'm guessing you deal better with arts and can't stand loud repetitive noises, right?
Don't listen to these morons, you come to adv where 15 year old kids come ask how to act on their first date.
I don't think I'll remember the name of the disease but maybe ask a doctor?

This is what I thought. I was coming here for some more direction, but I'll probably get myself looked at for this. I'm in college so it could help with my grades, which would be nice.
