How do you guys combat major depression? I've got no friends, no family, no hobbies, no interests and currently no job (new job doesn't start for 2 weeks). I'm a mid-twenties kissless virgin, which is definitely the source of a lot of my woes. I've moved three times in the past year to different states for new jobs/why not, I have nothing going for me or tying me down. The only time I enjoy myself is my coffee in the mornings, when I'm jerking off or while my mind is occupied with a book or movie. What. fucking. do?
>>
Well, it sounds like you actually have three hobbies. Just indulge in those.
>>
>>16532094
By seeing a therapist
>>
>>16532094
They usually say to involve yourself with your friends and loved ones, not isolate, and feel a part of.

You should work on correcting that before diagnosing yourself with an actual disorder. Everyone would be depressed with no friends and and no connections to others. Come back if you're still depressed when you have friends and people in your life.

As of now you're isolated, lonely, and depressed from that. Totally normal. I wouldn't put you on any pills until you are living a normal life and still feeling depressed.
>>
I suffer the same + massive social anxiety.

I'm halfway on the way out of it, all on my own accord.

Here's a checklist of shit you should do by the end of 2016.

1. Cut out porn completely from your life.
2. Cut fapping to once a week.
3. Eat fewer carbohydrates, eat more protein and vegetables. I suggest lean proteins.
4. Start going for runs. Make it at least a tri-weekly event. Try to get it to where you run 5 miles a week on average.
5. Go to the gym. Work out. Take all your anger and frustration of the world and put it towards lifting. As you get slimmer and stronger, your confidence will naturally boost.
6. Have productive, interesting hobbies. If you don't have them, cultivate them. Have them be hobbies where you have to leave your house and hopefully meet other people. For example, I like geocaching and hiking. Those are fun activities where I've met some really good people.
7. Slowly replace video games with reading.
8. Find an excuse to leave the house for at least an hour once a day.
9. Do a good deed every week, for no reason other than to help your fellow man. It will make you happier and build your character.
10. Once you have friends, make them take pictures of you that you like.
11. Use said pictures of you (now better looking and confident) to make dating profiles. You will attract girls guaranteed if you're /fit/ and not full autist.

If you follow this list and complete it in a timely fashion, you will be much happier in life.

Best of luck OP.

I've seen them before, they've never helped. I've been depressed since I was around 17 or so, sometimes only somewhat, sometimes really bad, but never happy. What triggers it the most is thinking about romance and all the years I've missed out on

>>16532115
See above. I've been depressed for 7+ years now.. Often go days without leaving my apartment. It's a struggle to leave the bed most days. Never had a girl in my life, and never many friends at all. I've done pills before, but they never really helped either.
>>
>>16532119
Pretty much that, OP. Especially point 9, it's one of the most important, if not the most important. Making someone else happy, whether it's the beggar you just fed, kid whose ball you reached off the tree or the granny whose bags you helped carry to her apartment will surely give you a boost of confidence.

Remember one thing - doing something is important. You will stay depressed forever if you don't do anything. Those steps sound really good and I would surely follow them if I were depressed. Good luck OP, I believe you're going to pull through that shit.
>>
>>16532119
lol I like how you assume I'm not in shape and play video games, neither of which are true
>>
>>16532094
Get some friends, hobbies, interests and a job.
>>
>>16532094
Fap, read, drink coffee, and watch a movie all at the same time.
>>
>>16532339
And then I'll have nothing to do that much sooner! Great plan
>>
Last bump
>>
>>16532094
Get a plane ticket to Thailand. You should be able to figure out the rest...
>>
Honestly, to me you sound so free. Try to embrace it instead of feeling blocked by it. Move to exciting places. Indulge in your hobbies! (Reading is a huge one.) If you still have hobbies you're far from hitting rock bottom depression. Visit some book stores maybe? You'll definitely meet people at your new job. Try to join a community where you live. Play some sports, exercise is crucial if you want to heal from a mental illness. Go to events in your town. The thresholds to a busy life are not that high as you might think at first.
>>
>>16533054
I'm already in one of the biggest cities in the US now and its the most depressing place I've lived in yet. Too many happy people.. And knowing there's so much to do here if only I had friends/a girl makes the fact that I'm such a social outcast that much harder to handle
>>
>>16533054
What's the point in living life if you have no one to share it with?
>not OP
>>
>>16533082
Am OP. Basically this. Nothing is fun when it's always, always, always alone.
>>
>>16533076
Cities are more depressing than smaller towns and people are not as happy as they might seem. However a city also means that there must be loads of events every night. Try to find those that spark your interest and you will find like-minded people.
>>
>>16533076
You don't actually sound like you've tried to sign up for a hobby or sports thing. I would join a choir or a book club. I would go to slam poetry nights and small concerts. All for free if mostly possible. I would go to libraries. Might sound boring but idgaf.
>>
Oh, we're all depressed. Is anyone not depressed? Just be grateful your only problems are to do with being sad, not to do with starving.

I'm depressed too, I don't see a way out, I think it's just the way things are and will be and we should just deal with it.
>>
>>16533135
Not really. Lots and lots of people have normal lives with a girlfriend or boyfriend and a social group of friends. In fact, I'd say that's most people. Being a depressed outcast hermit isn't the norm
>>
>>16533082
Tbh I'm 21 and I feel like I have too many friends (5) and along with my boyfriend I feel like they are eating me up sometimes. It's good to have your perspective and it's not like I don't like them or anything. The idea of starting from zero just sounds so liberating to me as I would have the chance to redefine myself and focus on myself more. Through the journey of self-discovery, you automatically meet the people that will make your lofe richer. I promise you you are never as alone as you think you are. Especially in big cities I think people tend to feel lonely even when surrounded by groups of friends. They have made mistakes you can prevent because you are starting at zero. Remember that starting at zero also means you have nothing to lose. Chin up, bro. Believe in your awesome self. This is the chance to be who you've always wanted to be. Work on things like confidence, self-worth, a set of morals, body language. Don't live from a place of fear but from a place of love. Remember that a 21 year old female in law school is slightly envying you.
>>
>>16533138
It is if you browse /adv/ for a few seconds. Don't make the mistake to think that those people can't be depressed too. Everyone has some sort of issue in their lives. You don't have to deal with the drama and hurt that comes with dealing with people, for example.
>>
>>16533148
I would welcome drama and hurt, because even then I'd at least be feeling SOMETHING. Also to feel hurt you've got to first care about whatever it was that hurt you

>>16533141
This is going to sound sexist, but it's always seemed to me that ladies have an easier time in new places than guys. At a minimum you can just go chill at your local bar/cafe alone, look halfway presentable and a guy will try to talk/hit on you. Requires no effort on your part. Guys are the ones who, if we don't approach/start conversations, cannot forge relationships with the opposite sex. Also, guys who aren't above-average attractiveness and are drinking alone are seen as lonely/sad/creepy. Granted, making friends of the same sex is probably just as hard for women, but you still will always have guys that will want you to fall back on.
>>
>>16533189
And who says that guys hitting on me in bars is what I want? Who says that a guy hitting on me is what will stop me from feeling depressed? If anything, it would make depression worse. I actually had a really hard time away from home at university because I would just sit in my dorm and hate to go out drinking. What is so hurtful and sexist about your comment is assuming that girls are these godly creatures that everyone is longing for, when in reality I am scared for being assaulted. Guys tend to be overwhelmingly rude when "flirting." Not all girls are born with social skills, just like not all guys are. Why turn this into a gendered issue? You are so pathetic you didn't even answer to anything substantial I had to say. All I heard was you crying about how hard you have it. I get it. You're depressed. YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
>>
Now stop making excuses and do something about it. You men are such fucking spoilt brats. (I get to be sexist too, fuckwit.)
>>
>>16533272
So, assuming you didn't have a bf and had no friends, you wouldn't welcome a guy hitting on you? That makes absolutely zero sense but okay.
>>
>>16533299
>>16533272
Also, "godly creatures everyone is longing for", no. "Someone to go do fun shit with and then get to fuck afterwards", yes.
>>
>>16533313
I'll admit that I did enjoy my current boyfriend hitting on me at the time, but that was because his behaviour was different. It wasn't just "oh hey you are pretty I would like my dick in you" but he didn't look at me like a piece of meat and just spoke to me like the human that I am, without any pressure of hooking up afterwards.
>>
>>16533333
so... you like guys you find attractive to smooth talk you. so... you like guys hitting on you. case fucking closed, getting sex as a woman is easymode. Now, imagine if nobody of the opposite sex ever engaged you in any way unless you first smooth talked them. That's what being a guy is like.
>>
>>16533345
Fuck off you ignorant cunt. Learn that women are the one's who have it harder. Are you jealous of women (and men) getting raped? I don't give a shit about getting easy sex. My boyfriend didn't smooth talk me at all. All it takes is a simple "Hi, how are you?" We clearly can't exchange opinions if you keep sticking to your pathetic views of the world and you're not interested in getting meaningful relationships with people.
>>
>>16533345
This is also exactly what makes you hard to be approached and it won't get you laid. Is this what they call beta?

>>16533355
You don't give a shit about easy sex because it's just that for you, EASY sex. Anything that's extremely easy to get (sex for women) is no longer valued. If you're scared about rape carry some fucking mace with you or something. Men have it much, much harder in the romantic world (see: unattractive men that resort to escorts, strippers, prostitutes, etc).

Basically:
Just sex: good! Meaningful relationship: Great!
However, people like me can't even get the first, so of-fucking-course it's going to be something we want/care about.
My entire 24 years I've been stuck with: Nothing!
Obviously if you can already have the 'good' anytime you want, you're going to place much more emphasis on the 'great'. Duh a meaningful relationship is the better of the two, but lots of easy sex is way better than nothing.
>>
>>16533360
lol. 99% of girls don't approach in general.
>>
>>16533391
Djeez. As if it's that hard. The internet is full with "how to pick up chicks." Stop crying already.
>>
>>16534066
lol when you're unattractive it IS that hard. You think someone could manage to go through high school and college without getting so much as a kiss and not be ugly? I've been to concerts, clubs, bars, house parties, tinder, okcupid, plentyoffish, etc etc and never once been able to make it happen.
>>
>>16532094
>What. fucking. do?
Do this in steps.
>I'm a mid-twenties
Good, you're still young enough to correct any mistake.
>no hobbies
Find a fitness activity or routine you like and do it consistently. Don't just dismiss this. Have you heard the phrase happy wife, happy life?

Your body is your wife. It is the most intimate connection that you will have with any physical object on earth. You MUST take care of your body. It helps you, feeds you, keeps you awake, puts you to sleep, let's you fap. It's your best friend and you have a duty to take of it. And when you start honoring this responsibility, your body rewards you. You feel better about life, more active, more awake, happier. Being consistently active - not skinny, not "in shape" blah blah blah - being consistently ACTIVE doing something you enjoy is the best gift you can give to yourself.
>Hiking
>Swimming
>Cycling
>Snowboarding/Skiing
>Water Polo
>Golf
>Anything

So find something physical that you like to do and do it. BAM, you have a hobby to put on your Tinder profile.

>Next step...job.
>>
>>16532094
>>16534726
>Job
> I've moved three times in the past year to different states for new jobs
Good, this means you're willing to do what you have to to survive.
>I enjoy myself is my coffee in the mornings
Starbucks has great benefits and all you do is make coffee. You love your coffee right?
>I have nothing going for me or tying me down
Do you like being at sea? You might be able to work on a cruise ship, which I've read can be stressful but extremely fun.
>when I'm jerking off
A certain favorite porn website is currently hiring people to help manage their website. You could look at what they are looking for, train yourself in those skills with free e-books and practice, and then apply to them. Bam, you work for a porn company where you can do porn related shit all day.
>my mind is occupied with a book or movie
Can you write? Would you want to write about books and movies? Plenty of online movie critics. Could be a new hobby.

All I'm saying is that you can break this shit down piece by piece and conquer it.
>>
>>16534735
lol I have a job it just doesn't start yet, i'm just in this new place waiting for it to start. and starbucks is shit. but thanks for trying. the other post was more helpful but still, last time I made a tinder I didn't get a single match in a month and so I took it down (no I'm not overweight, just have unattractive features that are dealbreakers (refer to the 2 rules of Tinder)
