Hi /adv/. I've gotten myself into a sticky situation.

I have panic attacks when I have to eat/drink in front of people I'm not comfortable around. Not to mention I haven't ever been on a proper date before. It's now 6 am and I'm laying in bed watching anime and putting off sleep because I'm anxious about tomorrow. I can't cancel because that's rude, but I really want to. How do I deal with my anxiety on a date?

I have the same issues, i find it extremely uncomfortable to eat in front of people. My way around it find something that you both like to do, that's how culture works. People do things, some people do the same things. People talk about the same things.

The other thing i do is just get drunk, but that might not be advised as it doesnt usually get me anywhere except more anxious when im sober

You are a moron then. There is no way out, unless you cancel your date a or try to change the destination. You could also try not to be a special snowflake and contain your 'anxiety attack'. Alas you could try to explain your condition to your date, but he would probably leave in a great hurry.

Go on the date and realise there's nothing to be anxious about. Tinder should have already shown you that you have all the power in app dating, everyone you meet is replaceable.

Actually yes, I'm sure there are tons of specialised texts on that online, but basically try to use grounding technique. Count five things around you, touch 4 thins around you, smell 3 things (or rather try to recognise smells, like his cologne, coffe smell, cookie smell), do the same things with other senses. Be descreet, but focused so the panic won't overthrow you. Alternatively bring some comfort token with you, like dunno, a ring, and when you feel stress levels are going mad just play with it, touch it and focus on how it feels. Try not to think about this whole affair, don't visualise how bad can it go, just find something else to occupy your mind
