To put it in perspective, Legoman charges $45 for one character sketch, and $75 for aa sketch with two characters. The thing is whoever you commission for samples to start a Patreon doesn't need to be attached to the project ongoing. Just make it be transparent about it. You can commission one of these more expensive artists who are producing high quality art to create the initial character sheet, and then commission another artist to make the game art based on that design.

You're ultimately commissioning an artist to work to a brief. You can attach whatever supplementary material you want to that brief. For example, if I were commissioned to fulfil a brief, and character sheets from another artist were attached, I would work to fulfil that brief using those designs to the best of my ability.

What is unhelpful for a professional artist being commissioned to work on another person's vision is a lack of direction. It's the reason major studio's have art directors. As project lead on something small scale like these trainer games, you're effectively the art director, unless you want to hand that responsibility over to the artist in which case you should expect to pay a lot more and have less creative control over the end project.

Also I didn't mention this, but what I'd recommend before approaching an artist, is to create a google drive or something similar, create a folder for each of the characters, and fill them with reference images. Even if it's just a handful.
I'm talking photos of outfits, body types, poses hairstyles, and whatever else you can think of that might help.
You're much more likely to get what you want if you can show the artist what you want.
No artist wants to repeatedly go back to the drawing board because you're unhappy with what they've made when you haven't been clear with what you want in the first place.

Camwhores, pornstars, lingerie shops, and other artists are all great sources for this kind of stuff.
