Going with this idea I came up with a cast of four characters and I want to write fun/funny stories with them. The idea is a little shaky "guy who has created a business -- albeit, a struggling business -- literally fucking ghosts." When I started Overwhored all I knew how to do was write. Not art, not programming, not anything. You can learn if you really want to do it.

Just remember to start with something VERY short and simple. If you want to start with the ghost girl you should set up something that's literally just, "Find ghost girl, solve simple puzzle or just engage in dialogue, bang." I made about 40 or 50 games before I got started on Overwhored, all too small and crappy to go out to the public.

Try a very, VERY simple VN first. Or a super simple two or three room RPG Maker game. Keep it simple and you can manage it.

Honestly the real reason I succeeded in making a big game like Overwhored where so many others fail is that I looked at it like I was making seven games; each heroine's story period was its own game. Together it was overwhelmingly large; separately it was large but doable. And I could further break that down into "this dungeon" or "this town" to make everything make sense.

Start really simple and small, then chain little simple small games like that together and even big things become doable.

Just don't waste too much energy with your first few games. Make them with the intention that they're throwaways you're not going to bother to share. Do sketch level art and no higher (or hell, stick figures) for instance. Then you take the best ideas and lessons you learn from the throwaway stuff to make an equally short but better game for the public.

My first public game was an exceptionally bad game called hypno master with stolen art and poor programming but it was a full game. It's amazing how proud you'll be of your first full game even if it is crappy.

For the stuff that doesn't go out to the public (and I emphasize doesn't go out to the public) I fully encourage you to outright rip off the work of others. Just copy them verbatim to learn how to do the stuff they did. When you're learning it makes sense to copy from what already works rather than make up everything from the start yourself. Public stuff needs to be original, of course, but if it isn't going out to anyone feel free to steal for educational purposes.

And regardless, when I do write, I don't go for the "everyone speaks eloquently" trope that's incredibly awkward in most stories anyways; I give each character their own speech patterns, verbal tics, so forth.

This means some characters speak "normal", others speak "odd", others speak "casual", and others speak "classy", so forth (and I don't mean just a catchphrase or two in there, nor do I mean extreme stereotypes either).

But yeah, overall, I consider myself pretty decent at writing. Most of the people who played Magic Matchup agree (and to some extent, Future Fragments also, although the writing in that is getting redone to not be so dense with all the new stuff in it). I'm not the best there is, but I'm certainly not shit at it, haha.

I've been working with Sleepymaid for a long time and I consider sleeps to be my best friend. Moreover we've had a solid working relationship for many years.

Months ago, maybe even before /weg/ was a regular thing, a guy on /stg/ posted a few screenshots like this one and claimed he had made a better version of WT, but that he would not release it until /stg/ stopped existing because he didn't want it to be posted there. Then he disappeared and nobody ever heard from him again.

So I finally completed a run through of Incest Story. Icstor warns me to save outside my door. I do so, overwriting my only complete go (about an hour longer than any other) see the end scene (of the current demo) ... and I'm sent to the title.

'Cool' I think. Now I'll reload, and check out everything in the gallery, especially the bonus scenes, as a final feeling of accomplishment.

. . . I am <FUMING>. The game won't let me into my bedroom, insisting that I want to go downstairs for the end scene. I'm not interested in going back to the hash of a job that's my next best attempt (I think I was about to go clean Uncles house).

So forgive me if I'm not quite getting this straight, a bonus pack would be great, sure. But are you saying that Sleepymaid would take over the vast majority of the art assets for HI? Because frankly, although we've only really seen one CG scene so far, I kind of liked what I saw of it better than most of Sleepymaid's output.
On that note, of your F-ing/Tsuda/Brell collaboration, who did what exactly?


Also, while I guess another anon has mentioned a bug at this part, I also ran into looping dialogue at the little sister part of the demo. It wasn't just one time, but multiple times after picking an option, the dialogue went back to the same choice with the same options afterwards. At the "puppies are so free/wouldn't it be fun" part, and after fetching her a bone, the trees would repeat. Picking the obviously wrong "pull out your dick" option still brought it past that point, and after two repetitions after the scene the option for "enough for now" came up and ended it, so it wasn't an inescapable loop, but that dialogue tree has definitely got some kind of problem.

Also, I too am already donating, and either way I don't really think I'd change.

That isnt really a bug. It is just the way the dialogue is set up. And it is easy to get out of. You just dont click "Do you want a bone", you pick "enough for now"

Let me be clear real quick: Home Invasion's art team is decided. Sleepymaid will do the chibis and some bonus art and no more. This was decided before the project ever began. I am very happy with my team and their skills. If Sleepymaid went to work for me full time it would be on future games.

I love the people working for me and they do a spectacular job. There's only one flaw and it has nothing to do with them. It's that I cannot afford to hire a team of artists full time. I commission them and have to sit through the queues with everyone else. That means art takes a pretty long time.

As for who did what see pic related.

On the subject of the dialogue I'll get around to changing it at some point.
