New build is up! It is an update for mother's romance route.
It triggers if you decided to sleep with her at the aunt's house or rejected Beatrice and aunt.

New DiCK build, this month it only has a new trap follower, with around 25k of content. Not sure if I mentioned it before, I kinda fired the writer last month, since he was delaying the project and what he delivered draged the project down. After a couple of ultimatums he left and didn't delivered his part for this update so it only has what I have writen, which is why it has less than past ones.

This is probably going to be the norm unless I find another writer to help.

Half the fun of these games is the gradual breakdown and transformation. Only having 3 stages of corruption defeats the whole purpose. Take notes from a soldiers life and to small extent tropic (Shit game but at least the progression was decent) and have 1-2 entries per stage but a duck load of stages.

I would say it's more than half the fun. These "tame", "risque", and "lewd" phases are only to keep the diary entries, unlockable clothing, and available personality changes at least somewhat reasonable so you won't see endgame stuff right away. There should be plenty of progression outside of it.

actually since is not loading the info at the box of the right, im p. sure the problem is with changing Helena corruption, but again if the problem was widespread all of her would break too, so i'm not sure why it breaks in this particular instance. "edit": I was already loading this fix but now I think maybe it could actually be the furry or futa thing, not sure why but since her portrait isnt loading... i'll check it out if this build. I'm not sure how that would be a problem tho, since if it was, it would break at EVERY instance of loading a character, but still worth a shot.

first question: how do you deal with choice problems? in free-roam games, there's too much choice, and if you railroad them, it takes away the enjoyment. free-roam works well on such a massive scale that you don't feel like you're missing out on content. most creators are too ambitious and fail at this or they do all right but the player is too anxious about missing content to enjoy the gameplay.

however, designing a VN style game requires much more work to have the flexibility as a free-roam game. you can gate choices as you like, and the enjoyment gained is typically normalized for the player (no real variance).

i feel like the game i want to design right now lends itself really well to being an RPG opposed to a roaming style VN. are my own anxieties as a player not prevalent for others, or is there a way i could soft railroad or inform the player of 'right decisions' without taking away enjoyment?

Personally I'm the kind of guy that wants to do everything in the game in one playthrough.
If I can't immediately see the alternate outcome of a choice with a save (such as if the result is only apparent much later), then I'll probably never see it, because I won't start a new game after the credits.
As to your question, it's usually not hard to figure out which choices are right, if you make the wrong choices sufficiently 'wrong'.

The way I plan to handle it, and the way I've seen other good games handle it, is by tying progression to one path to another.

If a player is focused on one route, they will be forced to branch out. On the other hand, if a player is doing a little bit of everything, they will be making progress in places they aren't even aware of.

Also making a good RPG maker game is much harder than making a good VN. Like, if steam had a blacklist feature I'd filter out rpg maker games, simply because 9.999999/10 are complete garbage.

Each choice theoretically has a meter increase value attached to it, though it hasn't been truly implemented for lack of content. As these meters increase, scenes or different versions of scenes are unlocked. Of course, there's also a money system for sprite and minor in-scene customization as well as quests and the main storyline, but it's not exactly a matter of leveling up to defeat the big bad.

People seem to be okay with it. But this is coming from a guy who doesn't want too much work to get to his smut. From my perspective, this is the ideal version of an erotic VN. Where you could really start having fun with it is introducing negative values, but that gets into a whole other can of worms in requiring some kind of bounceback system. You could always do minigames too, which can be fun, like Blackjack in 4ET. But when it comes to introducing a large mechanic to progress through the story, like the combat system, I find it feels a little forced, and I end up cheating anyway.

We're slowly approaching the time that my Roman era slave training game will get a demo. A ton of work has been done on background art and game mechanics.

I now have an approved / final design for the UI which looks really pretty.

And lastly, after all this time I finally have a couple of character art pieces out for work. I'm certainly not promising a timeline yet, but I'd really like to have a running demo out for the end of August in which you can start the game, go through the background story, travel to Rome, meet the necessary people and take over the brothel operations. Ideally you'd be able to buy your first slave girl and begin trying to train her to a life of prostitution. We'll see how all that goes.

You are Marcus Furius Camillus. You come from an ancient senatorial line of aristocrats going back to 200BC. However, because of bad fortune the Quaestors and Aediles have ruled that your family is Equestrian.

You have just been remanded from the Equestrian Cavalry in which you were a Praefectus with a mustering out bonus and total savings of 600,000 sestercii because of your father's death. When you arrive home you discover that a persian named Zenobarbus holds writs for over 1M sestercii in unserved debts. Your family home is in near ruins, and all but a handful of the family farms have been sold to service your father's gambling debts. Your only slave is Kreon, a Greek manservant who knows what your father was up to. He infoms you that your father won a brothel named the Aureus in Rome, and that is literally the only remaining asset to the family name.

Your sister is completely uniformed about the brothel, and is only vaguely aware of the family debt.

You have a couple of paths open to you. Yes, you can refuse to run the brothel and be forced into debt exile ending the game early, but for practical purposes you have two main paths you can follow.
