What are the chances volumes 4 and 5 get adapted? The first season of Banner was great but it really felt like a prelude of the war to come, and volume 3 was just a small side story, volumes 4 and 5 is where shit really hits the fan.

I think it's just one of those series that you'd have to already have an interest in sci-fi to find and watch, because from what I see sci-fi discussion covers 95% of times someone might mention it, the other 5% being threads about elves. Other than the blue space elves I also have trouble thinking of anything really memorable about it as far as sci-fi goes at least, I still love it though.

Who are the Abh?
They are parts to a machine.
To them, children are nothing more than replacement parts.
Their children are mere objects to which they are able to pass on their abilities before they perish.

Then what is this machine?
The machine is the monstrous, evil Humankind Empire of Abh.
Healthy human societies were constantly under threat of this evil machine.
Should humanity continue to allow this machine to exist,
human society would surely be swallowed up.

This machine must be destroyed.

afaik, each volume is quite conclusive by itself. Keep in mind that SnS 4 and 5 were released 9 years apart.
>>
>>161952012
As the anon above said, the novels pretty much are on an indefinite hiatus and will probably never be finished, nevermind translated. I read somewhere that the author planned 12 novels total (with the CotS novels included) and we are on no. 8 right now. So the story is far from completed. But the point at which anime ended was pretty satisfying, I feel.

>Baronh is a completely developed language with a dictionary and grammar rules
It is and there are some very detailed fan sites surrounding the topic (japanese only unfortunately).
http://dadh-baronr.s5.xrea.com/grammar/grammar_index.html

and for an example of spoken Baronh
https://youtu.be/Ko21BNdAVj4

I think when an author goes full autism and creates a constructed language, the result will either be an amazing read or an incredibly dry one. Crest manages to lean more towards the former as far as the translated novels go, and the anime helps considerably with getting into the series.

I marvel at the types of authors that go this deep with world building. I would definitely recommend the webcomic Outsider for anyone who would like to see another space-faring adventure of humans and blue elves with an autistic level of attention to detail. Keep in mind that it updates about 4 times a year though in single page increments (we actually had a month long streak this year) so it's a slow ride. But the author has pages upon pages of background information available to read.
>>
>>161953411
As a conlanger myself, I wonder what it is that makes these languages pop out so much. Baronh, Hymmnos are wonderful, but I can't really put my finger on why.
It's not a question of grammar complexity or fancy phonetics. Unworkably complex grammars aren't useful and people disregard what they find impossible to pronounce.
Maybe it's having sound samples?
Also, thanks for posting that, that channel is wonderful.

Copy and pasted from the archives.

Lafiel gets promoted, Jinto sticks with her, they get a bigger ship with more responsibility. Atosuruya, Sobaash, and Ekuryua, if I remember right, end up serving together, Atosuruya being a pretty big deal and Sobaash serving directly under her. Books focus on Lafiel's brother a bit more. One of the members of the Four Nations Alliance swears a truce with the Abh but end up backstabbing them, killing the current empress and routing a good number of the Abh forces. Lafiel's brother is taken into protection as he's in the line of succession, though I can't remember if we go back to Lafiel/Jinto after hearing about the betrayal.

>>161953795
>I wonder what it is that makes these languages pop out so much.
Even before I knew that Barohn was a constructed Language what impressed me about it was the opening narrations for the anime being in Barohn, and the insert for one of the Crest DVD's that had the alphabet. I think having a sound bite did something to me because anyone can just make up a simple alphabet that is a swap/cipher of their native language.

But last year someone pointed me towards a website and I began to realize how deep this went.

I hold to the idea that when there is substance to a work of fiction, the reader can pick up on that to some capacity even if they aren't aware of it.

Well, this might get quite wordy. For starters, a bog standard greeting in two registers. Literally, it's "Good day, do you feel good?".
>Savat teles, clizec teles rrahia nnoi ca? (Coloquial)
>Savat teles, nenoi sos clizeges teles rrahia? (Formal)
First off, adjetcives (such as "Teles"), adverbs and other modifiers are placed after the part of speech they qualify.
The standard word order is SOV (shown in the formal example), but the order is changed to OVS in coloquial speech when the subject is the focus of the phrase (In "how are you doing", the focus is on "you", it is the topic). Those orders are the usual ones, but they can be changes as long as Subject, Object and Verb are properly marked. Subject is marked by "ca", object by "na" and the verb is marked by the sentence modality marker "rrah", shown in the example under the interrogative form "rrahia". There's also the topical marker "sos" that replaces "ca" or "na" depending on which is most important. The coloquial example uses "ca" because there's no object, so the topic doesn't need to be underlined.
Posession comes in "A sil B" and "B fan A" forms, both being "A's B". "Sil" is used for tangible possessors (an object, a person), while "fan" is for abstract possessors (a family, an organization, a nation).
Verbs are conjugated by tense (time and completion based, no mood involved) along three groups (-ec/-es, -ra/-ear, -te/-me). Coloquial and formal conjugations have drifted away with time and become somewhat distinct, but there is still a large overlap.

I could talk about pronounciation (not how every letter is pronounced, just some general rules that aren't obvious from the way I transcribe it, e.g. the orthography of "savat" is "sft" with some diacritics), derivative morphology and other fancy things, but I'm not sure if you're that interested.

Wait, apparently accorting to Wikipedia it's only when it's part of an affix?
>Wenn ein e als Teil eines Affix' auftritt wird es häufig stumm, z. B. byrec (/byr/, Flotte) und cluge (/clug/, entspannen).

Apparently he uses a lot of rules I haven't seen anywhere, so he must have good sources. I also see he puts "a" is "dozzoth a" as a part of the word rather than using them as independet words. I haven't seen that mentioned either, only something about word final "e" being replaced with "a" in pronouns so instead of "le a" it's "la" for example.
He also gives some of the words long vowels which I haven't heard about, for example "baic" is written as "b3:" instead of "b3", and "seriac" as "seria:"
He could have some really good sources for what he's doing, really want to know where he gets this from or if it's just mistakes.

This dude sings a fucking anime opening in a native American's language. The more I think about this, the more amazing it gets.

>word order
It's the ones in-universe native speakers default to. The marker system theorically supports any word order, much like latin declensions, as long as you don't mess with the elements within each "block", e.g. don't put the adjectives before the noun they qualify. However people stick to SOV as it's more practical (less effort to communicate) to use a commonly used word order.

The writing system is an abugado: only consonants have letters, the vowels are indicated by diacritics (which I'm not taking note of because I don't know how to put diacritics on latin script consonants). "Clizeges" is written CLSCS, but non-initial and non-final consonants in a word are voiced, hence "clizeges" instead of "cliseces". H and E, the vowel letters, are not counted towards that (e.g. "ESR" is pronounced "esra", not "ezra"). H is a vowel that vowel sounds don't "flow" into, it won't form diphtongs and the like with previous vowels, but it can form one with a vowel after it.

Morphology wise, most nouns are derived from adjectives. "Sogar" means "northern", "sogarel" is a nominalized form, "north". "Asogarath" is "The Northern Land", "a-" indicating its particularity and importance ("The"), while "-ath" is a suffix for a geographic location. "Telesath" or "Atelesath" would be "The Beautiful Land". "Asogaralt" would be "someone from Asogarath", "-alt" being the suffix for demonyms (in this case a- is inherited from the place's name). "A-" usually replaces an initial vowel.

tbqh, my main problem with conlangin (this one is Aoglanalt or Nisden Flebol, "the one from Aoglana" or "raining speech") is coming up with vocab.

I'm not sure how accurate his diction is, some of his videos with english comments by him say that he does them mostly for practice.
>>161959248
A shame the only Hymmnos one is the Made in Abyss opening. Singing a Macross opening in Hymmnos would be spot-on.

I wish I had ressources to learn Arka.

I sometimes think this series was made to expose the people who would sell out our planet for blue haired space elf waifus

I appreciate the breakdown. I may not understand all the terms you are using to describe but I am getting the jist. It's interesting about how the writing system works too.

>is coming up with vocab.
I know recently I listen to a podcast where the creator of the comic Outsider talked about how he went about his constructed language. You created a random word generator with some of the rules of his language programmed into it generated a series of lists and then pulled words from there.

I just recently started getting into this idea of myself but unlike you I'm just researching the phenomenon of conlangs.

>this one is Aoglanalt or Nisden Flebol, "the one from Aoglana" or "raining speech"
Is the language you are working on for a story of any kind?

>>161960403
You wouldn't?

>a story
A setting, at the very least. Haven't gotten around writing about it yet. I've quite a few settings in fact, too much free time you could say. Some have conlangs, but this one is the most developped one.
I also have a hymmnos-like one with a simple-ish grammar and a vocab mostly derived from garbling spanish, french, english (which makes sense in the setting), but it doesn't feel as "good" as the Nisden and I think I'll go over it again soon. I have a few other conlangs that are just "naming conlangs": I haven't delved into the details of sentences but there's some morphology and the like to get names for places and people.
The most Seikai-influenced setting (for the storyline, ordinary boy meets transhuman girl, they learn about each other's "world") also has a conlang but I have to start over because it was pretty much basic japanese with other words.

I'd do right fucking now if I was guaranteed Abh citizenship, who wouldn't want a cute space elf?

Maybe I won't Jinto-level of lucky and have fate pair me with an Abh princess, but marrying into any of the 4 big families is cool shit.

>>161961521
You're not a Harem protagonist, everything will be daijoubou

>>161961555
Just remember elf ears are the Abliarsec's trademark, so the common Abh lacks them. Totally worth it either way.

I like the late 90's early 00's kinda design of the anime series. I think it's charming, even though characters looks horibly disfigured (especially in CotS). On the other hand, Lafiel looks fuckable in this new manga and Jinto looks like a man but I can't say I am a fan.

>>161962351
Thanks. The setting that uses Nisden is fantasy, so the main idea I had might be a bit standard fare: royal intrigue in a fantasy world, mostly... Another idea I had would be a isekai'd guy having to learn how the world works, including the language. Totally not ripped off the premice of that novel written in Arka.
The Seikai-inspired one I mentioned would me more interesting, imho. A low-tier space opera (no galactic scale, recently made colonies, etc, an "early interstellar age"), no humans, only ayys and ayy abhs... I suck at describing stories without going into details.
What is Outsider about?

>What is Outsider about?
Webcomic about humanities entry into the galactic arena. Science Fiction by nature with it's own race of blue space elves acting as the main point of interaction. Comic updates at a glacial pace.

The initial hook is that a scouting vessel makes contact with an ongoing battle and their ship is destroyed by a beam of unknown origin. The Main character is rescued and begins the process of bridging the diplomatic gap between humanity and the Lorei .

Here is that interview I mentioned that contains the author of Outsider and some other web comics that feature constructed languages
www.spiderforest.com/podcast/episode-7-say-it-like-you-mean-it/

The constructed language is a trade language used by the galactic community at large.

Does their relationship progress any further in the LNs outwardly or does it continue forward with implicitly agreeing they're basically married?
