SURPRISE

BOO!
>>
>>161805420
What?
>>
>>161804992
"Western manga" would go on /co/ i believe
>>
>>161804992
>western manga
I think the term would be comic. Or graphic novel.
>>
>>161806945
Would it though?

There's a stylistic and audience difference in manga, and even Japan makes that distinction:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Original_English-language_manga

If I were to make a manga, I'd aim toward weebs and manga readers, not comic book fans who might get put off by certain tropes and art styles.

Plus, not all anime is made in Japan, and likewise, neither is all manga.

>>161807056
But manga are defined more by their style, than their place of creation.
>>
>>161807099
Go look up who the artist on Gwenpool is right now
>>
>>161807099
I guess you are right. There is a huge audience for anime even in the west so it isn't too insane to make shit for them.
Still seems weird to call it anime. Maybe in the future it won't.
>>
>>161804992
It's not a manga if it's in the West, newfag.
>>
>>161807361
Giruhiru, two nip chicks, I figured it'd be nips.

The paneling of Gwenpool is very western, and despite the covers, so is the art style. This reinforces my original point of manga being more stylistic if anything else.

Compare Gwenpool to BnHA or OPM. The stylistic differences are very evident.

>>161807487
Well, you have Castlevania, and then there's that one westerner who made his own anime, Shelter. I'm sure there are other example, but the industry is indeed expanding, and opening up to western creators. Bahi JD for example is from Sweden, yet he's worked in various high profile animation projects.

>>161807520
Wrong.

Comics and Manga are essentially the same thing, the differences really come down more to stylistic choices than anything else.

Honestly I just really don't wanna mix with /co/

I can empathize with that sentiment. I'm just curious as you have people like Whyt Manga, making their own manga, and I'm personally also working on something, and I'd like a place to discuss these sorts of things. This sort of stuff is not welcome in /co/, nor is it directed toward them. /a/ is my audience, not /co/...
>>
>>161804992
What kind of OEL manga are there even?

Miki Falls
Apple Black, and whatever else Whyt Manga has in his monthly magazine.
and then there's Peepo Choo

The publishing and merchandising infrastructure is still based almost entirely in Japan, regardless of how large the foreign fanbase is. You're going to have to release simultaneously in English and Japanese if you want to tap into the existing market in any real way.
Obviously comics have ther niches in the West, but the Japanese have an iron grip on manga for the near future.
>>
>>161809356
I agree.

However, it's not impossible to break into the nip market, others have done it, to varying degrees of success. If the right kind of unique project comes along, and gains enough traction amid western anime/manga fans, I believe it's possible for it to gain popularity in Japan as well if, marketed properly.

However, it has to be the kind of manga that not only manages to stand out amid what's currently out there, but executed so well that it also rivals some of the best stuff out right now.

It's can't be the sort of "I'm an anime fan, and this is MY Naruto-inspired manga." It really has to be something that blows everyone away including current Japanese manga, enough to really captivate nip audiences.

The potential is there. Someone just has yet to do it right. They're sticking way too closely to their fandom of anime/manga, rather than using manga as a medium to fill the gaps of what's not being done properly within that medium.

I draw in anime style.

One time a Japanese guy offered to commission me to make a doujin of his fetish, but I got scared and turned him down.

Manga is pretty fucking hard once you try it.
>>
>>161804992
that reminds about that anon who was drawing hentai involving his mother
>>
>>161809555
Mind posting examples of people who have broken into the nip market even if it's people with inspired manga?
>>
>>161810015
There's Peepo Choo, as mentioned before, by Felipe Smith is probably the most famous example.

Then you have Deltora Quest, which was made into both a manga and anime, though I don't think that really counts.

Frederick Boiliet made three manga that were published in Japan.

And Mark Criley's Miki Falls also has a Japanese print going.

I'm sure there are others, if I bothered to dig more deeply, but the fact at least remains that Japan is willing to print western mangaka for Japanese audiences. It's possible to break INTO the market. How successful your are overall however is a different story.

Isn't Jump running a global competition to get published, or something?

They are?

Screencap?

I can't see the submissions.

If I could draw, aside from the copious amounts of porn, I would attempt to create a manga adaptation of Mother of Learning.
>>
>>161807724
/co/ would be fine with proper moderation
>>
>>161807864
Fucking weeb, just try to make the best comic you can. Use whatever art style you want but understand why you're using it, not just some shallow attraction to glorious Nippon.
Manga and comics are fundamentally the same fucking thing, all the differences are just tribalism.
>>
>>161812132
So why don't you?
>>
>>161812388
I can't draw.
>>
>>161809833
tell me more
>>
>>161812646
You mean, you don't want to learn how to draw.
>>
>>161812646
Didn't stop ONE
>>
>>161813378
Is /a/ just a bunch of ONEs who don't draw but have great ideas?
>>
>>161812875
learning to draw takes 5-6 years, though, by the time I've gotten good, I'll have forgotten about why I even wanted to learn in the first place
