Just the nature of the content kinda fits the 'cold' rigid CG.

Like the moon monsters are very 'fake' looking and such, and would be difficult to animate.

Also lightning/texturing the actual look of the Jewels. Like the brittleness/cracks etc can be done well in CG. Also the reflections/transparency.

We'll see. Just weird seeing it all in color. This is one of those comics you marathon, forget about, pick back up several releases later but have to start over because you can't discern the characters anymore.

You could not be more wrong. This series is based around minimalistic scenes juxtaposed by very elegant and detailed encounters with most of the moon people models. And the use of contrast is very strong at scenes. But paramount to everything is how motion is conveyed in these scenes. That's not something I think a CG scene is going to lend itself too over 2D animation.
