Maybe because the there hasn't been a release worthwhile since the movie, what exactly would keep the interest up? All because nip virgins lost their shit for aya having sekksu.

>>161242535
The character development comes with Disappearance. E8 is cool as a standalone because they got creative with how they showed the exact same things over and over, adding symbolism and other stuff, but it shouldn't be taken as 8 separate episodes.

Yuki-chan has very little to do with the main series or what people think of it

I read through 5 volumes of this shiz. After that I had no desire to read another Haruhi light novel. It was a fun idea at first but after awhile it got boring.
>>

>make 8 separate episodes
>it shouldn't be taken as 8 separate episodes
Then why not just make it 2 episodes with 8 time loops
>>
>>161242655
>>161242668
It's one of those things that only sounds good on paper. It's like listening to your favourite band play an extremely shitty song for 8 hours only to tell you at the end that you must be glad that it's over. Sure you are glad but you also just spend 8 hours listening to shit.
>>
>>161242682
All I'm saying is that Aya Hirano came back to voice Haruhi for it, so it's obviously not that scandal as for the reason why there's not S3.
It's Tanigawa's fault.
>>
>>161242114
You probably have to do some sort of arcane ritual while under the eclipse for that to happen.
>>
>>161242783
It's enjoyable to see the little differences between each episode and to just get yourself in that summer mood. By the end it gets tiring so breaking the loop is satisfying.

>>161242729
I mean it doesn't have the same narrative value as 8 separate episodes with different plots and developments. Making that 8 episodes instead of 2 doesn't add 6 episodes worth of substance (although it adds quite a bit with the 4th wall breaking and Yuki), it's mostly style, and a new watcher should be aware of that, since it was a single short story in the LN anyway.
>>
>>161242783

That's a dumb fucking trope. Good thing they weren't that and more like counterparts. Sasaki isn't an evil Haruhi or anything, and outside of the "same powers" thing (not really when you look at it) all these guys were different and had their own agendas.

>guy was running out of ideas

that's like saying "the best fanfiction writer", who the fuck cares

I guess I agree they were good light novels, but I disagree that they are good literature, they are DEFINITELY terrible sci-fi and the anime flows much better
>>
>>161245378
You're talking straight out of your fucking ass. The reason the LNs are so good in the first place is because Tanigawa doesn't write like your average LN piece of shit writer.
They're written like novels. The anime would not be even nearly as good if it wasn't for the excellent source material in the first place.
>>
>>161245378
>muh LN
That's not criticism. Although I agree an anime adaptation of the post Disappearance LN would flow better, the anime failed to convey some of the LN stuff and skipped some good monologues like Kyon realizing Mikuru is bait. Haruhi was successful before the anime because Tanigawa is good, simple.

>In that instant, Haruhi began to slip free from the cross. With her head hanging down as she slumped over, she looked like a saint being freed from the bonds of crucifixion. The stone floor of the courtyard was directly under her, and headfirst, she began to fall.
>“Haruhi!”
>I didn’t think about anything. Not about consequences, memories, or any kind of duty or sense of righteousness. I didn’t need to. I just kicked off the window frame and jumped out into thin air, like I expected wings to sprout from my back. As though pushed by someone’s invisible lifting force, I caught Haruhi in my arms just as she fell. And then, naturally, pulled by gravity, we both fell. Headfirst.
>Haruhi’s body was more delicate than I’d imagined. I’d never seriously embraced her like that before, so I’d never noticed.
>But the sense of warmth, of softness, made me realize that this really was Haruhi. She was just a second-year high school student, in the bloom of her girlhood—just an ordinary girl.
>This was the true form of sleeping beauty. Even if I died the very next moment, her name would live on, carved in history. The girl softly breathing in my arms was, beyond any doubt, Haruhi Suzumiya.
>She was the real Haruhi. She wasn’t some illusion from Kuyoh, or a fake prepared in advance. To threaten me, Fujiwara was using the real Haruhi.

>Ah.
>The ground was getting closer. Owing to her unconsciousness, Haruhi’s body was limp, and slightly feverish. It was just as Koizumi said. That delicate body with its curves right where you’d expect them, the surprisingly slender shoulders, the slight fragrance—I knew better than anyone else that this was Haruhi.
>When humans fall from high places, they die. I didn’t have to guess at what my skull would look like after falling at this rate of gravitational acceleration and slamming headfirst into the stone pavement.
>Had I been a little too hasty? At the very least I could’ve set up a mat on the ground, or strapped on a parachute—.
>Of course, I didn’t have time for such introspection. The only thing I thought of was the faint notion of curling around Haruhi and putting myself between her and the ground to absorb some of the impact.
>The sound of rushing air roared in my ears. I would be hitting the ground soon.
>I closed my eyes. Tight.
>I embraced Haruhi. As tightly and closely as I possibly could.

>But that was all right. However far we fell, we’d be together.
>Darkness fell.
>After a floating sensation, I felt free fall again. I put more strength into my arms, telling myself that Haruhi was the one thing I would never let go of. – The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya, final chapter.

I'm glad that /a/ still cares about Haruhi this much. I wish it would garner even more interest,
but of course I understand that that isn't possible, given how long it's been since the last relevant update.
Most Haruhi-threads I see turn into shallow image-dumps, I guess there just isn't anything left to discuss.
I wish I could've been here when S1 aired.

No, fuck you. Tanigawa is one of the better LN writers out there. Hell, I would choose him over Nisio to be honest. Tanigawa tells a more compelling story, and at times the LN looks like a novel.

I wish he would find a way to write novels again.
>>
>>161256003
One issue with Tanigawa is that his planning is garbage. He's really good at writing but a lot of his good ideas come after when they needed to.
Koizumi and Mikuru barely got touched until fucking Intrigues. Endless Eight got written AFTER Disappearance.
Nisio flounders in other areas but his planning is definitely better. It's hard to say which is the better writer but they're definitely in the top echelons of LN writers.

I think it was kind of hard for Tanigawa to plan out his moves considering Haruhi was originally supposed to be a oneshot.

Name other LN, or LN derived IP that is half as creative as Haruhi?

It's all garbage, cheap otakubait like SAO ""idea guys"" who can't even draw on their own, therefore wrote bunch of bullshit and paid some illustrator to do sketches.

Do you /a/nons think Haruhi should've ended after S1 (or, in case of the LN, however many volumes S1 encompassed) ?
It would have a proper ending, but in turn we wouldn't have gotten great arcs like Disappearance.

Personally I just want closure at this point.
With how things are now, it probably should have ended with S1 IMO.
>>
>>161257293
Just because he got the idea doesn't mean that it still wasn't supposed to be a oneshot.
It got popular, so he was able to make more.

>Koizumi and Mikuru barely got touched until fucking Intrigues
Not a too bad choice. The anime is more focused on Haruhi and Kyon's main development arc (which keeps happening after Disappearance but takes a backseat) while introducing Yuki's development which takes more importance as soon as Disappearance starts. During that time he just hints at more things with Mikuru and Koizumi (future version, conflicts, stuff like that) and gives us that later when Nagato has had most of her development.

It makes for a nice dynamic, although one could argue it's not balanced correctly. Did he plan this? Probably not, but it works.

Now, writing Endless Eight after Disappearance, that's bad planning.

The inherent problem is that Haruhi is a complex series with a complex appeal. The original fanbase that formed around it back then only did so because people constantly discussed the details and merits of the show, which let people understand its appeal. Now when a newfag tries watching or reading it, they are just dumped in with no context, and no one wants to try and explain it to them because that would require covering years worth of discussion. The same with any niche series.

Kenshin became popular bc it was aired on American TV with a dub during the shounen boom of the 90s, it was just right place, right time. Now that place has been taken by other shows and that time has passed, it's natural for it to drop in popularity.

>Nisio milked Monogatari
End this meme. Monogatari is one of many series Nisio has kept going for around or over 10 years, even when others make far less money than it, and he's constantly inserting new ideas into it that piss Japs off. If he wanted to "milk" the series, he would've focused on only writing it and not other less profitable things, and would've kept it focused on the small town setting and 5 cute girs that made it popular in the first place.

Haruhi is the franchise responsible for the LN adaptation plague that continues to haunt the industry to this day. I am perfectly fine with it being consigned to the garbage bin of history except for those instances when it is brought up to demonstrate its deleterious impact on the development of anime.
>>
>>161271662
And yet it's better and more successful than you're favorite anime.
>>
>>161257480
If they couldn't adapt Disassociation->Surprise (and tbqh it would require one long somewhat confusing season, not OVA), then ending on Disappearance is the second best option.
Yes, Koizumi and Asahina stay underdeveloped, but Kyon's, Haruhi's and Nagato's arcs are in good spot for a closure.
>>
