Because it was a more popular and marketable show, direct marketing won against stealth marketing. It's been marketed to hell and back way before the anime was ever announced, and while the art quality and fanservice certainly helps - it's mostly the money.

Not to say that I don't like New Game, I even translated a chapter before Doki properly picked it up because I genuinely liked it, but in terms of plot, despite a fresh setting and older characters, it still feels kinda like a generic school cgdct. For me Stella is much more entertaining, even if I'm not a big fan of how Silver Link handled the adaptation. You're in for a good ride with the manga.

Glad to see people still talking about this. It was a super comfy show.

This. I like New Game! too, but cgdct can get tiring after a while. Only watched the first episode of the 2nd season, not sure I'll finish it. Stella on the other hand, has the girls working towards something tangible each episode, even if they are being cute while doing it.
