Girls with long hair look best with long hair. Girls with short hair look best with short hair. A character's hair is designed to compliment the rest of their design, so the original length is always superior. If you need to use the "meaningful hair cut"/"letting her hair down" cliche to show character development, you're a fucking hack.

Agreed, Satsuki was best with long hair.

For what it's worth, I'm not much a fan of short hair Akane, but it really helps distinguish her design from the other girls.
>>160705277
When a character's hair length changes it can end up looking in many different ways, so then, once again, said hair is designed to compliment the rest of the design.
>>160705277
But that's wrong;
Hanekawa looks better with short hair
Kanbaru looks better with long hairBee looks worse with short hair though

>Caring so much about a girly habit used for girly plots.
>>160707020
Its actually a masculine thing because many cultures used to have men who kept long hair and if they were dishonoured or broke a custom they would cut their hair.

>Hanekawa looks better with short hair
Wrong
>Kanbaru looks better with long hair
Correct
>A character's hair is designed to compliment the rest of their design
>You can't change characters appearance during the course of the story even if it's essential to the plot
Ok

People have always made physical changes to deal with emotional moments (what you're describing is just a little part of it) but in modern day cutting your hair for such reasons is mostly a woman thing.
>>160707352
No? I mean you are obviously an idiot they shave recruits heads in the military as initiation. Its a warrior culture thing.
>>160707412
I agree with you.
>>160707439
Thats alright then
>>160707412
They do it trying to change their identity too, but not to deal with an emotional situation. Good job getting aggressive over something so little, though.
>>160707519
Because you are being a twit by saying its a feminine thing.
Its a reference to Satsuki being a modern samurai warrior. She cuts her hair short because her old life as a warrior(warriors grew their hair long) is over its a cathartic practice by warriors.
>Girls with long hair look best with long hair. Girls with short hair look best with long hair. Girls are girls, and long hair is more feminine than masculine short hair, so long hair is always superior.
FTFY

>>You can't
Stopped reading there, nobody spoke in favor of censorship. You should be ashamed of writing this post.

I wasn't being specific of Satsuki's case (OP started with her image but he was talking in a general sense). Characters cutting their hair to deal with girly emotional reasons (which is the majority) is still a feminine thing, present in real life. As you said Satsuki's rite was the one of an old male mindset, not a modern one.
Is there any point in me trying to discuss this or are you going to continue the "twit"/"idiot" line?

I fully agree
