I think it goes deeper than that. Bad anime are usually cheaper, similar to a lot of other shows out there, and make you feel worse after having watched them. It's the same with McDonalds. It's cheap food, produced to appeal to a mass audience, has a lot of similar competitors, and makes you feel bad after eating it.

Food analogies are still bad, but you can do better than having it be so hyperbolic with nothing inbetween a fine steak and dogshit.
