The stretching issues in fantastic four are stylistic and director choices done wrong.

Stretching and animations like that aren't inherently hard to do, where directors fail is trying to make it "realistic" and what happens is this makes it look fake. Oddly enough for certain things, a cartoonish style lends to a more real looking scene in certain circumstances.

Yeah, Japan doesn't give two fucks, that's essentially why. It's also rather conservative with very little racial diversity, and small budgets tend to mean you get actors from wherever you can, which tend to be from your country.

You can't really compare that to racially diverse countries. Also I don't care if they were all white or all japanese. The argument is about the actual characters and what they should be as stated canonically and visually.

They also... Don't look white. Robin, Sanji and Nami do, but if you can't tell the stylistic differences for Zoro, Usopp and Luffy I guess you just aren't very knowledgeable or more aptly you are inside a bubble surrounded by a subset of people wherein you only see white characters unless they deviate greatly from the norm.

You also have to take into account how Japanese people draw people of different cultures and countries. You have to be aware of hairstyles, facial structures and how someone who is Japanese portrays that.

Even further you need to know the differences in style for the specific artist.

I mean sure, you can be hard pressed to fit anyone in anime into a white mold if you really stretch it. However when you see how Japanese people actually draw foreigners from the states, you clearly can see a huge divide from how Japanese people draw Japanese people(Who you think are depicting white people) and how for example they draw Americans.

Americans tend to be drawn with a great exagerated chin, containing certain hair styles,etc etc etc. Franky fits that.

Swedish people tend to be drawn with a more rounded jawline for women, generic facial structure, and specific hair styles. Nami fits that. etc.

They will tone everything down. Luffy will still stretch, but that is it. The more I think about it, the more I think it's doable for the early series at least. Buggy can be done for cheap if he only has one fight, Kuro needs no expensive special effects either, Krieg can be just a big guy with armor, Arlong will be just a big guy with makeup, Smoker's special effects can be done cheap too. Crocodile is the one that worries me, Enel might be easier. Zoro is just a guy with a sword, Sanji is just a guy who kicks, Nami is a regular girl with a staff, Robin doesn't need crazy effects if she doesn't go all out with her powers all the time, etc.

The thing is the goal is there from the very start. You can't ignore it and try some self contained story like one of the animated One Piece films because those build directly off the canon. This is an adaption of the series. Luffy sets out to find One Piece while building a crew and growing with them. It has to completely change the story and it's progression and make something that only resembles One Piece in name, characters and the most basic story premise.

If they don't fuck it up and it's a 1on1 adaptation it could potentially be alright. The 3D would always make it a little shitty, but it could possibly be tolerable in the best case scenario if competent people take charge of it.
But some things are already confirmed just by being western production:
