There's so much we don't know though, because the context we have is so minimal? Did the more of humanity escape on another vessel, and this family wasn't picked to go because of limited space (TTGL reference?) and the father simply made his own spaceship so she could join them one day? Depending on how you read these cues, the ending can come across as either incredibly dour, or incredibly sweet. We just don't know. It really deserves a full-length movie or an OVA series to let us see all this. I think it would work out great.

The whole story is basically around her piece of garbage dad sending her into space by herself to waste away while everyone on earth dies peacefully. He thinks by giving her a virtual world, to live in she'll end up being satisfied, however, what usually happens to normal humans when in seclusion that long is that they usually end up insane or mentally unstable. Add to the fact that this type of story was used millionsnof times and it was never good. Only normalfags think this generic crap is deep and worth crying for.
