Just watched Castle of Cagliostro. One of the best anime I've yet to watch.

I feel like the classics, whether it's anime or not, is a classic for a reason. If it's bad, it's long forgotten. Obviously it wasn't so I watched it.

Newer anime don't have that flair older anime have. Animations suck, the characters are one dimensional, and it feels like the show exists to sell merchandises, not the other way around.

I've watched most of captain harlock but I'll have to admit the quality is a little harder to get into than things that came a little later. I think it's the way the audio is more than the video. Same with Ashita no Joe. Something about that old cartoon audio just makes it hard to get as immersed

There is something called "limited animation", which is a style of animation that focuses on detailed still pictures, good and creative layouts and switching rapidly between stills. This type of animation does not have a lot of movement, but can still be good animation. It's just a different way of doing animation.
So even if modern anime have more movement, old anime still had better animation.
