Cos one talented individual planned an entire story beforehand, with a beginning, middle and end, and specific themes he wanted to explore. And then they (mostly) managed to translate it into one huge aimated series (with a bit of a fuckup at the end when they ran out of money and had to make the ending twice, but did still manage to recover and complete it properly).
