one can only assume that the regular viewer (as identified by the producers of animu) in japan usually dont have a car since they are weeeaboos.
So a pedestrian vs. car scene makes more sense than a soccermom crahing into a truck on the freeway.

even more interessting: notice that most animes where the MC or at least an important Char drives a vehicle, the show is on the bell curve on the "good" side? (mecha != vehicles..)
