I tried reading HxH twice. The first time I dropped it at volume 11, the second time I couldn't get past the arena arc.
I can't think of any other manga that jumped the shark so fast. The prologue is about adventurers exploring a vast and mysterious world, looking for treasures and rare monsters. 5 volumes later it's a fucking tournament arc with convoluted superpowers out of nowhere.
Possibly the worst battle shonen I've ever read, I honestly don't understand why it's popular.

I've just started reading it the last couple of days. I think it's one of the more tolerable ones. Most of the powers make sense and the 'magic system' has clear rules despite them having room for loop holes and surprises. Very immersive. I was surprised how sympathetic I was to all the no names getting gibbed in Chimera arc. All those families getting torn apart and people getting eaten alive was just dark enough to be impactful but also scarce enough not to make things totally edgy.

A user from each category gather in a star formation with the specialist at the center to meditate into being a conjured amalgam person with all their potential. This conjured person must train and become better nen from scratch, also to move further away from the meditation ring where the six users must stay or the manifestation will die. it has to return to feed it's masters and only one of them will be able to live through it at a time while the others sleep as it's subconscious.
