Achilles is called a top rate hero for sure, the problem is when people go too far with it thinking he's an invincible hero, when he's not really. He could solo some wars, or he could get hit in the heel by a surprise attack from an assassin and be removed in a foolish way.

Its important to nail down just where he stands; without underplaying or excess stupid amounts of wank. He's roughly Karna tier, maybe a bit less. He's a bit less than Heracles.

Both of them are overpowered though. Hercules is one of the strongest servants out there even in his weakest class of Berserker, and I would be highly surprised if he does not turn out to be one of the Coronal Rank Servants who qualifies as the Grand Archer.

Achilles is also ridiculous. Only one of the servants of the opposing faction even has the ability to harm him normally, and it's only because that servant was both his teacher as well as an archer whose skill with the bow is probably superior to any mortal (except maybe Houyi) that he can fight Achilles on an even footing.

It makes perfect sense that Solomon and Merlin are the Grand Casters, seeing as how they really are the most famous/mythologically significant wizards in the modern world. The other wizard archetype out there is Odin--he is the precursor to the whole "wise old man with a big hat, big beard, and a staff" that later got attached to Merlin--but he is a god and normally does not qualify as a Servant.

How bad is this honestly? Even before the anime announcement the majority populace of /a/ agrees that Apocrypha is very bad, not even the LNfags are defending it.

If you are looking for action you will enjoy it immensely. Its a lot more "shonen-y" than normal nasuverse works and there's lots of fighting and conflict and less focus on characters themselves and it feels more like a tournament rather than anything else. And the animation staff here is the best of any Fate adaptation yet.

However, if you are looking for a coherent and interesting story just brace yourself, because in that aspect Apo's a complete mess. A huge portion of it is set up which never really quite pays off. HUGE part of it is pretty much what constitutes a filler side story and the ending portion of the show.. let's just say the salt will be huge there.

Let me put it this way - if Fate Extra CCC, FSN and FZ are considered the top three fate works(with Fate Strange Fake climbing up fast), then Apocrypha is easily among the top three worst fate works alongside Grand Order and Extella.

Different guy here. I have read up to the final volume so far, and I haven't seen any problems with the story up to this point other than that it being a derivative work. In fact, one of the things that I see people complain about, which is that the conflict just goes from being one between two factions of magi to one between the two saints about whether mankind has an inherent moral orientation and what it is, is actually pretty interesting to me. I also liked the twist at the end of the second volume.

What exactly is wrong with the final (untranslated) volume, other than that the "winners" end up being characters that people do not find as interesting? I can understand that much, seeing as how Kairi and Mordred are my favorites.

I don't remember if it had a special name or if it was just Grail War Quest or something. The PC's Servant was Odysseus as Archer and Atalanta, Lancer, and her master were our ally.

There was some great shit in that story. Rider leading a biker gang, orbital boat drops, a Berserker who got stronger and could find you every time you said his name so discovering his identity made him MORE dangerous. Many fond memories.

There were two sequel quests, one that was trying to be a more Tsukihime style story involving werewolves and magical drugs and Faeries, and a second larger grail war with four teams and four rulers. That one ended kind of abruptly with the quest runner seemingly disappearing overnight. It was a bummer.

It's just getting ridiculous at some point. FSN at least had Berserker and True Assassin and since it was the start it didn't feel oversaturated by "everyone is a cute little girl". Is it too much to ask for hero fighters that doesn't looks like 100% model cosplayers? You'd think most of them would have some scars and stuffs.
