Basically. They're leaving the profession. 5 years ago studios didnt have to give a shit, because if they fired one 5 more could take their place. Now people are wising up to the fact that producing cartoons for under minimum wage isnt a way to live. The shortage has already caused delays and changes in animation. I'm watching it just because of how hype he was for his own show at con panels this year. Making a capeshit anime and getting to work with Stan Lee is clearly a dream come true for him, and he's got a spotless record as a director (Boku no Potato looked like shit but it was good in every other regard).

Issues with production aren't down to a lack of animators or animators leaving the profession. It's the result of an unsustainable amount of anime being produced. The amount keeps increasing every single year and there is only so much that can be coped with. That limit is being reached and it is showing through rushed productions, delays and poor quality.
