Guys, Kaneki slaughtering investigators/humans might win Kaneki a few battles but at the cost of inevitably losing the war. He literally cannot afford to be running an operation that kills humans. He has to get public sentiment on his side, and while he's getting his ass handed to the meantime Furuta's policies ARE having an effect. This chapter described how capital punishment being handed out to humans who are seen as aiding and abbetting ghouls is pissing the public off. There's some historical similarities here with the Fugitive Slave Act passed in the United States, which helped lead northerners into finding slavery intolerable and arguably helped kick off the civil war.

Hell, I think one of the major takeaways this chapter was Kuroiwa's father giving the landscape outside CCG headquarters the thousand yard stare treatment. I fucking bet that Mutsuki is going to get her OEK ambush, but it's not going to fucking turn out how she suspects. Especially if all the Special Class Investigators are disillusioned by CCG at best, or convinved the institution has become an abhorrent abomination that needs to be dismantled at worst.

The entire point about Kaneki becoming the figurehead of the Ghoul population is that he's rebranded the Ghouls. This isn't Aogiri or some disorganized band of Ghouls, but one that seriously wants to open a dialog with humanity.

She's not far along so at this point if Touka dies so does the baby, though that's a pretty likely outcome at this point. I think the baby is doomed no matter what but whether Touka dies or not will depend on whether the Kaneki we have right now is his final persona. Losing Touka and the kid would absolutely send him into a suicidal spiral and cause him to become edge incarnate, bringing on something more brutal than black reaper Kaneki. If the baby dies and Touka survives he could probably keep his sanity and the two would be able to work through it together. I personally hope that it's the latter, just cuz Kaneki going full edge again would feel like a relapse for his character instead of actual progression. If both survived, which I seriously doubt will happen, the only way it could be good writing is if Touka didn't go on the mission and just stayed at home.
