That's not even mentioning the parallels between the two, carefully inserted after we better understand Reiner's initial motivations and the fact that they're the only two to see both sides of this pointless conflict and the only two that could possibly rise above it if they had the opportunity. Honestly in a series revolving around mystery I don't find much of an issue with new information being revealed like that, it's not the readers place to know what the Armoured Titan can and cannot do since Reiner has no reason to say it.
It also feels even less silly when it's revealed that there are only 9 titans to shift into, further showing that each titan is meant to be unique in some way.
That being said I have some vague memory of Reiner trying his best to preserve his head when in reality it shouldn't have been a point of concern if he can transfer his brains functions throughout his entire body.

since you don't want your main characters hooking up at chapter 3 of a 150 chapter manga, you want to put it off while simultaneously constantly hinting at their mutual attraction. the way most writers tend to do that is by using the whole "i'm a silly anime boy, i don't understand a girl's advances" gimmick, which is lame and cringy.
SnK is a notable exception because it just doesn't focus on romantic character interpersonal shit that much, which is the best way to go about it
