Not OP, but I also have several WD passports in various sizes. Each drive has partner that I mirror exactly whenever I move files off my core storage drive on the desktop.

Strongly considering getting a third mirror for each that I'd keep off-site (parents' house).

Hahaha. I already have 4k TVs and a 4k monitor but you think they'll rerelease a lot of anime in 4k? That's funny.
It's all digitally mastered now so only older series will need to be redownloaded. And only older series that are popular enough will be remastered in 4k.
>>
Upscaled 720p looks just as good. It's fucking anime.

I don't really go back and rewatch shows though. I download the episode, watch it, and then delete it after I finish. Don't need it clogging up my HD when I never go back to rewatch

Do normal people ever get tired of replacing their entire collection every time a new resolution becomes mainstream?

Seems like higher resolutions will hit a wall at some point where people just not bother. Even if they stream 4k, data caps are popular in the US so it's not like they'd be able to make full use of it unless they want to pay Comcast like $500/mo in overage fees.

I'm guessing the vast majority of filmed TV anime was 16mm, which means it's only a little better than 1080P.

Still, some of the remastered versions do look nice at 4K:

>>
>>158629383
Jokes on you, anime never gets remastered.
>>
>>158630112
Just download the old or rare anime.
The torrents of new anime probably won't die >5 years from now so you still have time archiving them while buying a new setup or external drive.
>>
>>158637437
Only at ideal conditions, considering deterioration, transfers, sub-optimal equipment and film quality most 16mm transfers won't even reach 1080 lines worth of real detail. Higher bitrate with UHD might give better results though.

Anime is easy to get nowadays, but any doujin and VN material is worth archiving. Don't forget stuff that is difficult to redownload later. I had a very good rip of the original Yamato, and even this is hard to get if/when AB goes down. If you like old shows, archiving is a good idea.

Which had two alternatives up within a month with basically everything save obscure hentai games? Ignoring this, why would you need to make a backup of everything while everything is still easily available? You'd be fine mirroring the stuff AFTER this imaginary disaster has occured.
And assuming in the edge case that you can never download these anime again, can you honestly tell me that you'd rather re-watch even 1tb of the content you have backed up over any other media?
Why do you have to backup EVERYTHING. I understand backing up the stuff you really enjoyed or is really hard to reacquire, but everything is just excessive.
Even then, there are much more efficient ways of backing up your data than just mirroring it. And I often see situations like in the OP, where there's over 2.5TB of wasted space across the drives.

Disasters have already happened a few times. When MegaUpload was seized we lost a lot of content forever. People that hoard data were the only ones that could reupload what they had.

Also, keep in mind that those people that seed the things that you consider easily available are the same people that hoard data. If nobody kept this stuff around then old content would be gone.

You keep the anime for your children. Or your relatives kids.

Unless you're content with them watching whatever jewish propaganda they'll be airing then.
>>
Unless you have a very big monitor its kind of hard to tell the difference between 1080 and 4k as it is anyways.

We hold our anime in more regards than a random japanese garfield show with no rewatch merits

Do you plan on not being alive in ten years?

Do you re-read books and rewatch movies too? Where is the fun of rewatching anime?

Live in the present grandpa

You're trying way too fucking hard. Here's your reply.

Are you using lunix?
If not, how are you making your folders dark like that?

Yes, sometimes. It's not really that weird. Some times you figure out different things on the rewatch. Or some times I just leave shows on for background noise.

Some media is designed to be revisited many times.

There's really no point in getting digitally rendered shows higher than their native resolution, your video player will do the same exact upscaling. Cel animated shows might be able to benefit but it probably wouldn't be worth it to push anything done on 16mm film (i.e. most TV series) past 1080p

Use IRC dummy.
It's like I'm sharing this board with fucking tech-illiterate children I swear.

Parts of my collection are 240p or 320p.

Fuck redownloading shit. I don't even care. If I rewatch it then I rewatch it as I got it.

If you can't even afford a £45 portable HDD then you should probably spend more time looking for a job than watching Chinese cartoons you sad cunt.

Get on AB, once you have money for storage start building your hoard during freeleech periods.
>>
>>158643563
Just download 1080p stuff. It's always free leech anyway. Even most older shows have 1080p rematers on AB.
>>
I archive my stuff in 480p. Fight me.
>>
>>158632682
I only keep shows that I really like or that the torrent is high quality and hard to find.
