Two complaints are that it doesn't feel like they have a very well laid out goal for most of the series. _he's just trying to survive and I guess "end the war".
It also sold itself on a lot more loli sociopath sacrifices the few for the many. That didn't happen a lot. Happened like twice.

I thought her goal was made explicitly clear. She wanted to live a successful life to spite Being X. However, the only way to do this is to join the military and when she did, she thought all her decisions would lead her down an easy bloodless path. Some of the enjoyment of the series comes from the fact that nearly all the choices she makes backfires.

There were goals set but most were fairly loose or intangible. "Spite god by living well" is hard to define success or even concrete steps to success. Not saying every series needs a big bad to kill but it's a tangible goal. They should have put more emphasis on ending the war rather than just winning smaller squabbles and battles. Have a few of her monologues while talking to herself be about ending the war so life can be easy as a war hero. I know there was one that basically said just that, but I think it should have come a bit earlier and been brought up more often as to keep that goal in focus.

While I also absolutely love how well an asshole HR salaryman's persona meshes with Tanya's predicament, I think there's something more that a lot of people overlook. Being X wants him to worship him, or acknowledge him as a god. A lot of people mistakenly think salaryman/Tanya is being purposefully obtuse when confronted with evidence. But is he really? He calls him Being X because he acknowledges that he's probably a higher being, but why should he accept that he's worth worshiping, worth praying to. There's nothing to say that he couldn't instead be the equivalent of the devil.

This is a complex story of suffering due to pride and hubris. There's highs and lows, laughs and sorrow. Tanya could easily forgo pride and surrender. But to some people living a life under someone isn't a life worth living.

The Spring offensive literally caused more Germans than ever before to desert, even before it was an obvious failure. German soldiers literally found so much food and supplies in French and British depots they realised the war was a lost cause and went home.

The entire reason they switched to such aggressive tactics was because they knew they were already losing and would lose a war of attrition. Again even without the US the Germans were under pressure, they couldn't feed themselves. The put all their chips in to the von Schlieffen plan, they recruited all their farmers, took all the nations farm animals, not just to feed the army but to move equipment (everything was horse drawn remember).

The British and French weren't completely autistic, they often allowed/forced experienced farmers to remain at home, they even sent solders home to plant and harvest. On top of that they had naval supremacy and didn't make neutral countries hate them by invading neutral countries. Switzerland, the Netherlands and the Scandi countries could have all made millions selling food to the Germans. They didn't because Willy/Germany was that much of a diplomatic screw up.
