I can see why /a/utists would love this. This series gives shut-in guys a lot of hope, and the MC is easy to empathize with, with his many realistic flaws portrayed in sympathetic light. However, the girls were not written on the same level: they were overall "girls who guys would like to date", but conveniently seemed to lack any decent guys in their life. And in the end, they felt like routes to be played through, albeit challenging ones, rather than real-life girls (who would likely need a lot longer to grow so intimate with a stranger otaku).

The problem with these type of manga is that it reinforces an unrealistic picture of how sexual dynamics work between men and women when it comes to the typical guy who reads this kind of manga.

In real life, even young women in their prime with a butter face, but with a hot body will either ignore a guy who is like the average MC or friendzone him. Perhaps later on when these women have been pumped and dumped by countless Chads, hit the wall in the looks department, and want to start a family because of thier biological clock, they might go for a guy like that. But only when they run out of options.
