After putting it off for a while I've decided to start Hidamari Sketch. It has a very odd but unique feel compared to other slice of life shows--lots of quick cuts, and of course the backgrounds and the presence of cropped photographs of items. It actually gives the feel of an artistic project (fitting since it's about arts students), so while it took a bit to get used to I really like the direction.
What are your thoughts on Hidamari Sketch? Also, post wide.

Thoughts? Best SoL ever, one of the best anime ever.
>>158334294
Watched it earlier this year and loved it. Maybe it was because it had a lot of seasons, but it was really fucking good. Don't rush it, enjoy it, anon.
>>158334294
I agree with this guy, Hidamari Sketch is my favorite anime, I watch it at least once a year.
>First season aired 10 years ago
>>158334661
And it's still great.
>>158334267
I decided to pick up the manga and they're literally getting plastered within the first chapters. Ume was truly a revolutionary artist.
Yuno is the coolest.
Still waiting S4
It's simply the best. Nothing much else to say.
>>158334661
>new season never
>>158335163
What's wrong with Honeycomb?
>>158334294
One of my favourite anime and by far my favourite SOL, yeah.
It's a wide, wide life.
>>158334267
I thought the same as you.
>>158334661
>matsuri will never be animated
>>158334267
Thoughts? Best anime ever, one of the best SoL ever.

Saved me from the abyss of depression and nothingness when I was doing my thesis.
Thank God for Miyako.
>>158334767
Hiro is easily addicted. Who knows what she is doing in the college.

>What are your thoughts on Hidamari Sketch?
Disappointed.
It's hard for me to really pin down exactly why I didn't like it. I agree that the cuts and atmosphere were far better done than something like the Azumanga anime. (In my opinion, Azumanga botched up because its pacing was quite poor.) However, it all just felt too... irrelevant? Not irrelevant as in meaningless, but irrelevant as in nothing really happens. It's not even a show where the characters run into and have to deal with daily problems in their lives, really. It's just a show where they have their lives.
It felt dull, without much of anything happening. Even the manga at least had some concerns to address, moreso than "I found this sketchbook in the trash, I wonder who it belonged to?"
I mean, if that's what people like, then fine. It's not poorly done. But there just isn't really much content there.

I don't remember this scene. That's a cute Yuno.
I want to rewatch it but
>4seasons
>>158339497
You don't have to rewatch all of it, just watch an episode every now and then. It's not like there's a plot or anything to keep track of.
Anyway, that's from the first episode of x365.
>>158339497
Rewatch it in chronological order.
I'm doing that right now in a pretty slow pace and it's really fun.
>>158334267
HidaSketch is one of the last good shows SHAFT made. I wish they'd stop suckling the Aniplex test and get back to creativity.
OPs and EDs always made me happy. I especially loved "Mebae Drive."
>>158339588
What's the chronological order?
>>158339585
Thanks I'll rewatch x365 just for that scene
>>158339385
I think I can respect that criticism but yeah I think I and a lot of the fans of the show enjoy it for exactly that element. If you're anxious or lead a stressful life a show like this can be a fantastic way to unwind with a few drinks.
>>158339681
It has great doujins.
I want to see Nori's folder.
>>158339756
>that entire list
Damn that's some dedication
You now realize all Hidamaris need to work as hostesses to fund their art studies.
>>158339804
>living on their own
>buying their own food
>cooking their own meals
>working on projects outside class
>just assumed that they were all in college
>small size just an aspect of the art style
>turns out they are all 14+ middle schoolers, going to a school away from home
They are surprisingly mature for a bunch of middle schoolers, though.
>>158339870
Most of them have pretty rich and supportive families.
>>158339946
They're in high school, so they're 15-18.
Yuno and Hiro would make great girlfriends.
While Miyako would be the worst girlfriend ever
>>158334661
Hidamari Sketch was in the age before webms.
>>158339967
>Most of them have pretty rich and supportive families.
Isn't that just cover story?
>>158340072
We already know Nazuna can now eat all the carrots in her curry, if you know what I mean.
>>158334267
The first season is pretty mediocre and suffers from a lack of animation but x365 is a masterpiece.
The next two seasons get kinda bloated with underdeveloped characters but they are still great.
The first episode of x365 is still my single favorite episode in all of anime.
It's probably been 1.5 to 2 years since I've seen this.
I guess it's time to watch it again.
>>158340212
If you watched S1 with TV subs, go grab a DVD/BD version (JP DVDs, the US ones fucked up and used the wrong masters for some eps somehow).
This was when Shaft was making DVDs great again by redrawing literally everything.

>The first episode of x365 is still my single favorite episode in all of anime.
It's easily my favorite Hidamari episode. I love everything about it.
>>158334267

You don't watch SoL or CGDCT.
Best sensei will never return

It gets better after the first season. I'm not sure how to explain it, less artsy I guess? More structured. It's still the same very slow speed but develops more heart I guess.
And there's some really emotionally hard hitting episodes sprinkled throughout.
Hidamari holds a special place in my heart among SoLs for just how very slow paced it is. And how nostalgic and comfortable the setting is.
