The Melancholy Of Haruhi

Watching it after so long it's pretty great, the animation and plot are interesting and still hold up.

I can't really remember the last show I completed so I'll pick a recent one.

Did I enjoy it? No. It was like this show was designed with no target audience in mind. There were not hot chicks, there was no good action, there were no SOL moments, the story was one of the worst I've seen.

Best part? There was an American army bro guy that got blown up and went blind or something but kept fighting. I liked that because murrica. Worst part? The edgy demon thing that talks to MC the whole time and is the fucking classic "don't use that power, it drains your life force!" cliche that apparently turns japanese 12 year olds on.

Hiro also gets a cool sniper rifle that shoots shotgun slugs.

Reading Citrus which I picked up at a con last weekend.
Overall I'm enjoying it.
Some aspects are really bad, like I feel it always cuts between scenes way too abruptly, and I hate romances where characters seemingly go days/weeks living alongside each other but somehow not talking or addressing the last problem we left them off on. Also I hated the entire arc in Volume 2 where the bitchy childhood friend showed up expressly for the purpose of causing drama and trying to split apart the two main girls.
But sometimes it nails the romantic elements, like the back-and-forth of sexual tension between the pair, and how Mei's thoughts and personality are being slowly and steadily revealed to the reader and Yuzu simultaneously.
It really uses the yuri as a crutch for roughly the entire first volume in order to maintain audience interest, though.

I disagree. I think that info dump was kind of necessary. It's true that there was a huge sense of mystery for the most part, but honestly too MUCH mystery, and you're not even aware of the threat or why it's a threat. The other characters reacting strangely to the threatening things doesn't really show me why it's a threat. You can't tell me, you have to SHOW me.

I can't really think of a best part. It's just kind of your standard harem with a pushover mc who's allergic to the girls (literally). The worst part was Fukuyama. I found him to be really annoying.

Yeah, but I liked it that way though. Coco's life felt like an oasis and I really enjoyed it that way. Suddenly you are talking about town secrets, the origins of the white flowers, how the monsters can possess dead or nearly dead things. I felt like we could have left all that out but kept Coco's development somehow while keeping that air of mystery around the whole situation.

Honestly it just felt like it tipped over into pure survival horror rather than just comfy atmospheric horror too much for me in the third volume.

I just didn't think it was horrific enough, honestly. But I crave horror. The atmosphere up until they started revealing the dark secrets was a little too nice, you know? Like, if this 'scary' thing isn't gonna do anything, then it's not scary, ya'know?

It's like eating a meal, and then finding out later that the food was human flesh. The meal isn't horrifying until that information is revealed. That's the sort of horror I crave.
