What does it take for a show to be classified as a "gateway

Just be popular and not fucking embarrassing.

Doesn't go full on weeb. Doesn't have much or any lewd pandering so it's something that can be watched saturday morning with your parents (if you're like 12). Usually more casual tier, with action and comedy. Generally shounen as they don't really deal with serious scenes as much as any other anime.

Reborn was good up until I'd say the future arc. Then it just got a little too ridiculous with the grown up cast members and the animals. Like as an example Hibari already had an animal side kick which kind of doubled as the mascot so him also having a hedgehog was a bit unnecessary. It would've been a much better series (and maybe wouldn't have been axed) if the mangaka had followed the Varia arc with more mafia stuff and kept it more within the realm of reason. The characters were already outlandish enough, it didn't need a crazy setting or crazy power levels too.

For better or worse, I instinctively knew when to cut Bleach off. I followed most of the Arrancar arc but it just never picked back up so when Aizen was captured I just stopped reading. I'd still check out the Bleach threads every now and again, plus I read the final chapter just like everyone else did, but I just couldn't find the interest anymore. So I only wasted maybe two years of my life when all was said and done. I'm not usually one to agree with /a/ but yes, it should have ended at the rescue Rukia arc.
