>it's a fun isekai that makes fun of the genre
>it's an isekai thread
>it's a "mods autosage another isekai thread for no reason" thread
>the same shitty webnovels for the Nth time
to be honest this is where i come to find new potential stuff, since every 1 or 2 isekai threads a couple of new series gets added to the roster of discussion.
i mean, i can't exactly quantify it but it's mostly on the execution, it can have many tropes but i'll still love it for what it is if it manages to do them in a good way.
also never assume an isekai will be good until you read it.
Like >>157470570 said, execution mostly. Nice world building, characters, the MC actually interacts with the world in a believable fashion/in interesting ways, etc.
The shittier ones are just thinly veiled wish-fulfillment with harems and shit.
>MC gets reincarnated as a useless trap
this never happens though
>no bad isekais
my own opinion is that your retarded
Well, sometimes they get reincarnated as overpowered traps.
You can tell isekai is a shit genre because all the popular isekais are riffs on the genre.
>isekai if we make fun of the tropes!
>isekai if the main character is an edgy evil skeleton king!
>isekai if the main character is realistically useless and his only power is that he can come back to life!
Is there a single one that's good that actually does an honest take on the genre?
no, no, you're thinking about it all wrong, ALL Isekai are IFs.
>Isekai if the main character is a spider in a dungeon
>Isekai if we have a hikkineet get his whole house transported and he's actually useless.
>Isekai if salaryman now turned loli has to fight against god's influences
the main character has a smartphone
The main character is an overpowered salaryman self-insert with a loli harem (but hes not a lolicon)
You know, I've noticed something.
As far as otome isekai go a lot of protagonists are the female equivalent of salarymen (OLs) but I rarely ever see female high school protagonists when male high school isekai protagonists are just as common as salarymen in the genre.
And female NEET protagonists are basically nonexistent.
I swear to god eventually there will be so many layers of irony on this garbage that you won't be able to recognize the fact that it's just trying to put a spin on medieval fantasy anime anymore
>Chinese xianxia isekai novels are hunred times better than JP equivalents.
>They aren't written for wish-fulfillment
Xianxia is just as wish fulfillment as isekai, the only difference is that the Chinese idea of wish fulfillment is to be able to rape and murder anyone you want and get away with it because of how ludicrously strong you are while the Japanese idea is being a fedora tipping gentleman who has girls crawling all over you because you're so "nice".
>Chinese xianxia isekai novels are hunred times better than JP equivalents.
Sure if you're a psycopath taking LSD and other what not drugs.
>it's another isekai where the MC is a hikki/neet but somehow has no problems speaking to girls whatsoever
>thousands upon thousands of isekai we will never get
>all those power fantasies never to be appreciated
>It's a slice of life with cute girls doing cute things
isekai genderswap MC
hoping tomorrow/today the newest shieldbro chapter gets released. Have a good night thread
>"maybe this one wont be a self inse-"
>stats multiplied by 100 with ability that melts reality
jesus christ, is there one isekai that isnt about an mc streamrolling and is actually overcoming hurdles by his own reasonably leveled powers?
This isn't fun anymore. Self-awareness has gotten out of control in anime (mostly through light novel adaptions.) When such a large percentage of shows are things that wink at you to acknowledge they're aware of how cliche what they're about to do is it loses it's entertainment value. Otaku culture is eating its own tail.
Ain't seen talk about this one, kinda edgy but it's hasn't done anything horribly offensive aside from OP MC
on the plus side, at least the genre gave us konosuba, aka the Complete Loser Brigade. it cut the wish fulfillment down and went "everyone here sucks, let's have fun with it."
and it is fun, with character interactions providing a great dose of whimsy,
>A Will Eternal
>The Ancestor of our Sect Isn’t Acting like an Elder
> History’s Number 1 Founder
> Shadow of the Sky
> Starchild Escapes Arranged Marriage
These are good CN WNs that use Japanese elements.
I'd watch it.
>It's an Isekai where the MC NTRs the hero over and over
>MC is mid-tier in homeworld
>Isekai'd to a world full of shit to low tier scrubs
Isekai isn't really bad but Japan just does the same shit so everyone ends up hating it, Stuff like Overlord is fucking amazing.
Konosuba is shit. Get over it you fucking fags. You and your fanbase need to realize it's just not that great and it's just fucking dull. The series is being milked constantly by the author and you keep buying into it.
What I don't like about isekai is that there is a character with a real name and everyone else has with fantasy names. It just doesn't mesh well. There are all these Void, Slan, Ubik and Femto and then there is this guy name Conrad. Looks stupid.
>Suzuki was strong
>The only people in the whole series he could take in a fight are the three stooges and literally children, and the three stooges train up and can feed him his own asshole
Did you forget him swinging a giant dog like nothing and impaling it? He was strong, he would just get shit on by anyone with actual combat experience.

The best isekai isn't even on your list.
That says nothing at all about the quality.
is this a thing? i would love it to be a thing.
>it's an isekai series
>MC is pretty much worthless except for her gimmick and people from the alternate world do all the heavy lifting
Escaflowne is pretty rad. I don't remember what Hitomi(?)'s power was though.
>It's a Battle Harem
>MC walks in on Tsundere
>Tsundere challenges MC to a fight for honor
>MC is some nobody but beats the Tsundere who is considered a top tier in the first episode.
at least have the MC have consequences for winning.
>Got recommended Dungeon Seeker(more like Sucker) after Arifureta
>Is reddit:zero but protagonist is powerful
>while still being fuckin retard
>everything is bitches, retards and whores, even god.
>it's Isekai but also nationalist propaganda at the same time
>Not in total garbage
Its quality varies wildly but it does what its supposed to do. When in panders it goes full throttle and if you are wrong target is off putting, but otherwise its done completely right and in commitment. Its like antipode of "half-assed"
Not garbage on any level.
But what if the MC is a magical vending machine?
thing is even if they did they would still be OP about it
>past knowledge creates a fully functioning machine gun
>diplomatic skills that turns small village into a utopian kingdom
>communication that convinces everyone everything
>strategy that makes them dance circles around any army regardless of training, experience, and numbers
kinda like that
Though I don't want the MC to be horribly worthless and weak like all the other /a/nons I do want a happy medium.
That his cheat gives him an edge but it isn't a complete game breaker or god-level ability. It's balanced and his victory relies on how he uses the skill, the situation of the battle, input and assistance from teammates, and pushing his own will to the limit rather than just the skill itself
CN novels are close to what I want but suffer from DBZ-style powerleveling. Start off balanced and hard working but become gods eventually and all battles are often determined by what level the characters are rather than skill.
> I do want a happy medium.
> That his cheat gives him an edge but it isn't a complete game breaker or god-level ability. It's balanced and his victory relies on how he uses the skill, the situation of the battle, input and assistance from teammates, and pushing his own will to the limit rather than just the skill itself
Thats literally Arifureta.
>its Isekai set in a realistic European Kingdom of between the Medieval Ages and the 17th century
>tfw the MC is getting executed for heresy by the local Inquisition due to his outlandish clothing
>tfw he dies out of a plague in less than 3 episodes
>tfw he will actually suffer like everyone in those times
What OPMC have to do with it? Would you call Goblin Slay because he can easily kill a goblin? Or village girl A because she can squish a cockroach?
Every challenge Hajime encounters is about resourcefulness and determination. Its literally theme of the story. Its just balance between such encounters and butt monkeys are a bit off.
I'm like 11 hours late, but I still feel a need to reply because xianxia is even worse than most Japshit most of the time.
When you have shit like:
>Against the Gods aka tournament arc after tournament arc
>Tales of Demons and Gods aka 500 year old pedo powerwanking
>Emperor's Domination aka the most clichéd piece of shit ever with muh faceslapping
>Martial God Asura
>History's Strongest Senior Brother
Because I'm still salty such a great concept was thrown away in favor of another boring fucking xianxia powerwank.
>literally everything on novelupdates that isn't Ze Tian Ji
And this is a small fraction of the absolute trash qidian produces.
The only decent xianxia would be Ze Tian Ji because it has an actual plot and the author wants to tell a story not just wank over his self insert, and I Shall Seal the Heavens because it had an actual plot and foreshadowing in between the boring fights even though 90% of the time the foreshadowing and the plot turned out to be shit.
Cultivation and wuxia/xianxia/wulin shit can be really good if the author actually tries to write a story and has the cultivation and martial arts and all that shit serve as a vehicle to explore a world and its characters and not just be a generic powerwank material #8545
most of the novels I'm reading for my sadist fetish so even my favorite novels would be considered bad
CN > JP > KR
none of them are good but some are worse than others
>And eating a lot of monsters to get their skills.
And the fun part? After leaving orcus dungeon like in first volume he never does it again, and it was mentioned only once or twice afterwards. And people before leaving is only good part. Pretty funny.
>It's an anime adaptation of a Light Novel series
Well, the LN fixes that. We get an extra arc in another world before then, important events get moved inbetween the slave village thing so shit gets more fast-paced and there's more arcs outside there.
You fucking idiots, Arifureta relies on pulling whatever convenient bullshit invention or gun out of the mc's ass and contrived deus ex machina for him to win out in the end. It is crap.
> Quality varies.
Are you implying something else, or are you just bullshitting?
> It does what it is supposed to do
You mean being complete trash? Doesn't make it any less worse.
> Full throttle pandering
> It does it right
> it does being garbage to the fullest.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You are bullshitting us. Fucking idiot.
>/a/ jumps into the hatewagon once it airs
They're not all bad, one of them is literally kino
>It's a Isekai adaption of a light novel
>implying Drifters was bad
damn, that's some shit taste you have there
Shoujo isekai is the best isekai.
The moment you see videogame stats you know you have found a bad isekai.
Should Drifters even be classified as an isekai? It falls into the same genre of "famous historical figures fighting each other" as the Fate franchise and Nobunaga the Fool. You could call it the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny genre.
Does going to an alien planet count as isekai?
There's no question that Narnia is isekai, but I was specifically thinking about John Carter. Can you basically say that going to an alien planet is isekai if you're teleported there or go through a portal, but not if you travel in a spaceship?
>it's an special Isekai with Kuroinu characters being trapped in this "real world" and there are people who either defend them or want to rape them, and the goverment who wants to nuke them
Worldbuilding. A lot of retarded isekai just use RPG mechanics because the author is literally retarded and doesn't know how to write worth shit.
Pic related, the only isekai with a world worth a damn.
>Still defending a steaming pile of garbage.
Fucking idiot, people like you belong on Reddit. The series itself is a contrived mess and you still defend it. Ha! You make me laugh.
Ok, wanna play that game? How about the fact that there's a deformity joke pretty much every episode? Or how there's no actual pattern to the summoning of Drifters, and it's fucking random just for the sake of it? Oh wait, why don't I mention how Drifters keep pushing rule of cool to the point it is just bad? I'm not amused.
No, Death march is best isekai since it needs 5 volumes for introduction. It's so great that you will have to read up until the latest chapter to make sense of it all and you'll probably feel smarter after reading it.
I stopped when they got to the world tree being eaten by space jellyfish because it was gay and dumb.
I mean it was gay and dumb right from the beginning but that was the last straw for me.
I fucking love female protagonist isekai, especially the villianess ones.
Even the generic ones are always better than generic male mc isekais, because the typical tropes found in female mc ones are usually more endearing than male ones. I'm honestly addicted to them.
It's garbage but its fun unlike death march.
Where Arifureta takes itself as a joke, Death March doesn't.
And Arifureta's author openly claimed he's bullshitting all the time.
I think i stopped right after vietcong bunnies raided a castle due to the horrendous grammar having an effect on how i write and talk.
>not using broken japanese as a meme
Who the fuck has read chinese novels
>Isekai without reincarnation and asshole gods
>MC is from a crazy future with robots
>World he's in is down to earth and chill with nature and shit
>MC kills people and freaks the fuck out of the ones he saved
>Waifus one girl, no harem
>Real hero dies while MC survives and gets all the pussy he wants
This was the best Isekai, and it wasn't even Isekai.
>Response to final warning: Go to hell, tin can!
Killing them was just a means to make the main pirate fleet put more focus on Gargantia. It was the right move at the time, but the wrong move in the long run.
How the fuck this guy manage to tell how her family look like and what kind of dress are they wearing? I thought she is blind and can only see figure and shape not look and color?
This might be amusing if they ever animate it. How many microtransactions does a pay2win player need to defeat Kirito?
Answer: enough to spawn so many objects the the server starts lagging and screwing with Kirito's reaction time
She can't see things that doesn't have mana and if it is an inanimate object that has traces of mana, she can only see the general shape of object emitting mana (ie the pocketwatch's mana stone) .
As for people, she can see their faces perfectly and it's left vague if she can she in color or not.
>enough to spawn so many objects the the server starts lagging and screwing with Kirito's reaction time
That goes bothways dumbfuck.
There is one way to defeat Kirito without shelling a ton of cash, just make a lagswitch.\
Also GGO game when, SAO games are nauseating
*blocks your rna synthesis*
I wonder if Steiner actually enjoys Smartphone, if he has Stockholm Syndrome, or he's just contractually obligated to pretend he likes it.
No, it had girl capturing and harem.
The twist is the MC is trying to free the hero's harem member from being bound to the hero by making them a protagonist in their own right.
Fuck the Witcher it's just a ripoff of Elric of Melnibone.
>Elric anime still hasn't happened.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU JAPAN?
WERE TWO NUKES NOT ENOUGH?
The original edgelord, who happens to be a bishonen, demons, Stormbringer best sword, the mc crushing all enemies with his overpowered and oversized sword all while he screams "ARIOCH"
This scream AOTYATY.
