Asuka would have been a better character if she wasn't such a tsundere. That archetype is just too cartoonish for a somone who's supposed to represent a "real woman" and serve as a female counterpart to Shinji, the most nuanced character in the show. I would have liked her better if her hatred and disgust was shown in a more natural way and not constantly fetishized and played as a joke.
The reveal of her backstory also felt really rushed compared to the rest of the cast. We learn almost everything about her at once near the end of the show.

Just like Misato, Asuka is shown to have difficulties dealing with others, especially males. In both cases, they use physical attraction to get closer to others (Kaji and Shinji, mainly) and get what they want: a remedy to their desperate loneliness.

In fact, in the Wall of Jericho/night scene (when Asuka sleeps next to Shinji) and in the kiss scene, Asuka is wearing Misato's yellow shirt, which is made for adults, so her cleavage can be easily seen. He's the main source of insight into one of the most mysterious and interesting aspects of the series; the angels.
Also he's one of the few alien characters in Anime who actually acts like a fucking alien.
No cliche bullshit about wanting to learn about emotions or "become a human". He's perfectly fine with being an alien and has no desire to change who he is, yet he still shows fascination and interest in humanity.

He has an aerial bird's eye view on the world of Eva, basically his entire existence is a consistent breaking the 4th wall. And every action and word of his acts and supports this.
Rarely ever are these types of characters handled correctly, but Kaworu's episode became infamous and as did he.
Despite having just one episode, you yourself still remember him despite claiming he's boring. That's how much of an impact he had on you and you didn't even realize it.
And that's why there's so many clones of him in Anime, even now 20 years later.

Everything about him is interesting and intriguing, because we rarely get it in Anime.
