Ironically the best solution would be to pin everything on Saki. It would explain why Terada didn't fight back (it's known in the department that he has feelings for her, and this could be leaked) and 1-3 & 5 can be explained by saying that Saki was using the rumors as a mask for her own killing spree. And She got to Terada because he was searching to uncover details about the case. It also helps that Saki is female so you can say she wore a costume while out on her other attacks.

A cop turned serial killer would easily capture the imaginations of people and be accepted. Granted, I don't think the game considered this option for the obvious fact that they'll be condemning Saki to life in prison.

While I like this series, mostly for the characters and their interaction, the big 'reveals' these chapters are totally nonsensical bullshit.

Like, anyone who's ever read a mystery could have told you Kurou's mysterious cousin was going to be the big villain, simply because we know there was a "mastermind" and she was the only one who'd never been introduced even though she'd been made into a giant Checkov's Gunman. But the way he shoehorns her into that role is garbage.

It's like he had two completely, utterly different stories that weren't connected, (1) Kurou's past and the stuff with his family, and the Kudan and the Mermaid, and (2) the whole thing with Koujin Nanase the ghost tits. And he just tried to slam them together with no connection to hope they'd stick.

I mean, can you imagine the logic thread of this? You're cousin-chan, you're immortal and can see and determine a little bit of the future and you're having a bit of an existential crisis. And you suddenly jump straight to the best thing to do would be to bring to life a fictional ghost monster from the imaginations of the populace by starting and spending all your time admin'ing a wiki and stabbin yourself in the neck because it'll somehow prove that under ridiculously specific, ludicrously unhelpful in any way circumstances you can increase the range of your power a little, as long as you like making monsters?

Ignoring the retardedness of this, it would require her to have a shitload of knowledge about the supernatural she doesn't have, like how to bring a fictional monster to life, and that such a thing was even possible. Kotoko only knows because she became Ye Olden Japanese God of Knowledge.

I'm pretty sure there's more to her motives than that. I mean, Saki literally said that wouldn't do anything, and then Iwanaga said "putting that aside for the moment," so clearly the author's not just leaving it as is.

Actually, even though I just defended it, now that I think of it, that's kind of how this author works in general. He slams some personal background drama together with some larger threat that doesn't always connect well. In ZnT he managed to tie it all together pretty nicely with the tree system, but the alien invasion in Vampire Juujikai was a bizarre, paper-thin excuse to fuel the plot. This is somewhere in between, since I still do think there's more to her motives, but I guess I can't be so confident they'll make perfect sense, given his history.

Honestly, he also just likes the shtick where the 'sort of nihilistic,girl who was important to me in the past' ends up being (a) more powerful than anyone else, (b) ambiguously antagonistic, (c) surprise connection to antagonist if not the antagonist themselves, etc.

The dead girlfriend/Sorceress of the End or whatever from ZnT is very similar as well.
