That is the stupidest location for a castle. On the right you can see the road inclining into a ridge. Any enemy can just park their ass right there and see into the castle grounds not to mention catapults and shit.

In the final battle everyone among the little witches will use the Shiny Rod, revealing that there was no Chosen One. Croix will be super-salty as the only one who was rejected.

The only problem is that the forest tower and some new info on the 7 Words are meant to come before the snake. But there is an explanation: the tower is the shrine Diana is talking about and her ritual can shed some light on the 7 Words and 9 Witches, thus fulfilling both the ep.1 and ep.11 foreshadowing. After the 9 Witches exposition is done, Croix possesses the snake and Akko destroys it with Word 5.

Character development has to come from within, not get get resolved by brushing away the situation that caused the conflict in the first place. Croix has to accept that she wasn't the chosen one and that's okay. She doesn't have to be the one, nor does Diana.

To being with the chosen one is just a person who will unlock the magic. It's not really someone special who will become god or some shit like that.

If Akko can save magic, that already fulfils Diana's wish. Besides, even without rod she still can help Akko anyway. And Croix could have helped Chariot. The fact that she ruined everything is not the fault of the rod choosing Chariot over her. It was her fault for wanting to needlessly be special despite the fact being the chosen one isn't about being special or getting special powers at all.
