They made it too obvious in this one. They kept waiting for Akko to come back in their room, then she passed by them twice without noticing them, they were in the background when she was talking to Diana on the tower and they finally gave up and brought her her stuff.

I think deep down Diana is pretty butthurt that Akko got the rod and all. And not just because that allows her to get the Triskellion and save magic, which is something Diana explicitly said she wanted to do herself. I think she also realizes that Akko's a sort of successor to Chariot, and that also pisses her off because deep down Diana must also wish it was her instead.

So one possible direction for the story to take is that Akko will save the day, and that will help Diana see that Akko is worthy of the rod and even of being the second coming of Chariot. And she might end up giving the card to her as as sign of gratitude and friendship.
