The fact that so many people call Neon Genesis Evangelion the “the greatest anime of all time” only tells you how far anime still is from becoming a serious art. Film critics have long recognized that some of the greatest directors of all time are Quentin Tarantino and Francis Coppola, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Anime critics are still blinded by commercial success. Neon Genesis Evangelion sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Film critics grow up watching a lot of films from the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Anime critics are often totally ignorant of anime of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that Neon Genesis Evangelion did anything worthy of being saved.
A thread died for this.
anime is not supposed to be a serious art, you dipshit, they are literally just japanese cartoons, and i don't see people claiming that cartoons are art, saged for shit thread

Movie critics and music critics usually have formal studies and know what they are talking about. Anime critics have no formal education whatsoever, and it's well known that most of them are complete idiots (specially if you go to ANN, most of them are a waste of time). Although every now and then there's one who knows his shit (even ANN has a great critic: Mike Toole).
In any case, the only point you made in your shitty post was that anime critics are retarded, and I agree. But that doesn't have anything to do with how much you may or may not consider anime a serious art.
Then again, you speak of Tarantino and Beethoven as pinnacle in their respective arts, so you're clearly baiting.
Is this pasta? I feel like I've seen at least part of it before.

The fact that so many people call Rail Wars the “the worst anime of all time” only tells you how far anime still is from becoming a serious art. Film critics have long recognized that some of the worst directors of all time are Ed Wood and Tommy Wiseau, who were not the most infamous or richest or worst sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Salieri under Mozart, who was less popular in courts around Europe. Anime critics are still blinded by commercial success. Rail Wars sold less than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore it must have been the worst. Film critics grow up watching a lot of films from the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Anime critics are often totally ignorant of anime of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that Rail Wars did anything worthy of being trashed.

Evanelion's "Aryan" imagery removed any trace of exotic Orientalism from anime. It replaced syncopated Japanese mono no aware rhythm with linear Western melody, and prim Eastern austerity with cute white-kid smiles.
The fact that so many people call 2D girls better than 3D only shows how far otaku are from seriously judging women. Normal people have long recognized that some of the most attractive women of all time are Jennifer Lawrence and Scarlet Johannsen, who are not the "cutest" or most submissive or have the best bodies of their times, let alone of all times. Modelling judges rank tall, fit, thin women over women who are squishy and big-eyed. Otaku are still blinded by fantasy. 2D is cuter than 3D can possibly be (not true, by the way), therefore they must call real women "3DPD." Real people grow up interacting with real girls in high school, modelling critics grow up reading about anatomy and objective measures of beauty. Anime critics are often totally ignorant of personality and feminism, they barely know anything past physical appearance. No wonder they will think that 2D did anything worthy of being saved.

It's like you know nothing about music. It's either him or Bach.
