Ep17 did a lot of things right. Developed Andrew in a small but meaningful way, finally gave us a great Amanda set piece, also showed Akko maturing and taking her quest serriously (she wanted to stay behind and wait for Ursula rather than go straight with Amanda to Appleton). Suit Amanda was great and I can't hate on it.

neither episode was really pivotal development, andrew chills out a bit but still gets all pedantic, and constanze has an adorable smile

17 was really nice if you like amanda but didn't appreciate the way episode 5 butchered her, and 18 is well, if you really like constanze and can get past akko's initial obnoxiousness, you'll really enjoy it

the screenshots tell me that the writing is going to consist of "mama, mama, i'm going to heal you with magic!!" and all that overly diabetic dialogue to make loli diana incredibly and cheesily moe. oh yeah, and the giggling, kids have to giggle everytime they appear onscreen with a large open mouth smile IT JES WERKZ

Yoshinari has no idea how to use the characters since Akko gets almost all the screentime yet zero to snail pace character development and most of the time Sucy, Lotte, Diana and green team are left with so few lines each that you can count them with your fingers. Akko's supposed to try get better after 6 and Ursula telling her about the words but she's still stuck in her no broom only mouse form skill level.

Trigger also has zero idea what makes for a fun episode and churns out boring filler shit without utilizing the side characters in them. Now that I've gotten past the initial fanboy phase I start to see how big flaws LWA has. The series would've been significantly better had side characters got more attention and maybe earlier Croix introduction.

Yup. Still love the universe, but so far it's been missing a lot of the marks. Like others have said; LWA should've been a series of 2/3 OVAs a year basically dealing with an isolated adventure and focused on side characters and the school itself.

I feel the same way. I've been an LWA-enchanted fanboy since the first OVA. I had high hopes for the TV series but it really hasn't turned out too well. Some episodes are so good, but most of them range from nothing special to awful. Yoshinari is one of my idols, his artwork is incredible and he's easily one of the best animators working in the industry, but I don't think he should've been director. The writers also need to be replaced with people more competent. Anyone that knows anything about writing and storytelling can point out dozens of flaws that could've been easily avoided if the writers were more competent.

It kinda hurts. I love LWA so much and I really wanted the TV anime to be something good.

Did I miss an episode or is all the "Diana's mom is dead' posts unfounded? I can't seem to see any references in the last two episode aside from being told that her family is having some undisclosed 'problems'

It started so good too. I wasn't a fan of the Enchanted Parade, the worst part being the portrayal of Akko. So I was really delighted when I saw the first episode of the TV show. They fixed everything the second OVA did wrong and it really felt like the the original did. To a lesser extend the two following episodes got it right as well. They nailed Diana's introduction and every member of the main cast was present. Trigger gave everyone something to do.

But then the show began to feel more like the second OVA. The messy way to tell a story, Luna Nova being replaced with the stupid town as background for the episodes more often than not and stuff got way too cartoony.

There were a bunch of great episodes, like pic related, but they were rather unconnected and far between.

I'd go for a 7 or 8 out of 10. Disappointing episodes aside it's basically exactly what I wanted it to be, which is more OVAs with a connecting plot between them. Obviously progress has been a bit slow but it moves a hell of a lot faster than most episodic series.

I'm enjoying the series so far, but I really wish they focused on someone other than the retard. I can't remember the last time Sucy or Lotte actually did something important. Not really a plotfag, so I don't care too much about the obvious pacing issues, but they have so many great characters they're wasting. The last two episodes thankfully redeemed them a bit.

To begin with, there has to be some focus on the Cavendish family because the word Akko is reviving is tradition, and that's not only related to Diana, but to the family as a whole and her mother in particular (the synopsis already gives away that her mother was the one protecting the family tradition).
