In the original universe, Dio took Jonathan's body but The World was still Dio's stand, not Jonathan's. You can take the body of someone else but the stand is still yours.
This was also the case for Kira in part 4. After he took the body of another man, he still had the same stand.
Star platinum had the ability to stop time was a coincident and it has nothing to do with The World. Star platinum and The World are different stands.
