Anon, a horse can live with a broken leg, it can even heal, it simply won't be as good at racing again and is thus not worth feeding and grooming unless you had planned to use it's seed and even that isn't worth much if it's not a notable horse already. We kill horses when they've broken a leg, it's not a fatal injury on its own.
