Long running shounen anime definitely have characters on some OPs that don't appear through that OP's duration. Gintama and One Piece at least do.

I remember Heavy Object did it. Sladder was a part of the first season's OP and only had his name dropped a few times during that.

Mob, maybe? I'm not sure about the characters but it definitely had season 2 materials in it.

Index II's PV at least had stuff that didn't even happen in the season like Terra, though he didn't make the OP.

The blonde guardian basically only appears in the last episode. I really hate when part of the cast appears right at the end of the series.
