I've read about a third of the thread and just wanted to say that Subaru is a consistent written character. I think that makes him good. It's been fun to have my mom read them and discuss the series with her, listening to her little theories on things as I remain lips sealed on the things that do or do not happen.

Probably just a translation problem. If I'm not wrong those were done by someone of their own accord instead of an official group, so there'll probably be some issues. This is pretty much the full story. Subaru was an athletic and bright child who got lazy and started to fall behind. His dad was an alpha with good social skills, and Subaru always wanted to be just like him. Unfortunately, Subaru didn't actually put in the effort to develop good social skills or become a real alpha, and just came across as an obnoxious asshole.

He managed to hold on to some friends for awhile by being that guy who'd always pull crazy and fun stunts and drag everyone along with him. Unfortunately, kept trying to take it to the next level and would mock anyone who felt things were going too far.

Eventually, he managed to drive away all of his friends. He was hoping to get a new start when he changed schools, but he decided the best way to introduce himself was to show up in drag. Afterwards, everyone at his new school basically wanted absolutely nothing to do with him.

After that, he basically stayed at home all day doing random shit, trying to get his parents to treat him like a disgusting loser. Because he's actually reasonably talented, he's got a bunch of random skills like sewing or playing guitar. He's mostly just third-rate.
